Family Gras 2017

Family Gras 2017 will be Friday, 02/17/17 - Sunday, 02/19/17

Family Gras is a three-day festival of concerts -- a FREE celebration of carnival and family that takes place on the neutral ground of Veterans Memorial Boulevard across from Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie, Louisiana.

You will enjoy both local and national performers, New Orleans food, a local art market, our kids' zone, and the Mardi Gras parades that roll through Metairie, just minutes from New Orleans!

Stay tuned for performers ... past performances have included: members of the Electric Light Orchestra, Amanda Shaw, Cowboy Mouth, Blood Sweat & Tears, Wilson Phillips, Montgomery Gentry, Jessy McCartney, The Drifters and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons who have entertained audiences of all ages!.

Family Gras takes place in Jefferson Parish each year ... Located right outside of New Orleans. Family Gras is a family-friendly Mardi Gras that offers free outdoor concerts, including national and Louisiana artists alike.

A big part of the Family Gras event are the fabulous parades rolling directly next to the Family Gras festivities. Beginning with Friday night, enjoy the Krewe of Excalibur followed by the Krewe of Athena. Saturday brings the pageantry of the Krewe of Caesar and Sunday welcomes the Krewe of Napoleon!

The event also enables Jefferson Parish restaurants, caterers, and businesses to feature their cuisine and desserts at the Flambeau Food Court; as well as their crafts and art pieces through the event's Art Market. Family Gras crowds surpass 80,000 each year with an economic impact of over $6 million.

Family Gras Saturday

Every year, Family Gras takes places on the neutral ground of Veterans Memorial Boulevard, across from the Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie. Bring your kids to enjoy the traditional spectacle of Mardi Gras, along with free outdoor concerts by both national artists and Louisiana's own! In past years, Family Gras artists have included Tony Orlando, Kansas, Taylor Swift, Billy Ray Cyrus, Sheena Easton, Jesse McCartney, Amanda Shaw, and more!

Family Gras loves to see you and your family in costume. Friday night encourages you to wear your most fun, creative costume, while Carnival Saturday offers a chance to don your purple, green and gold! Sports Sunday is something our Saints fans love, as it offers the opportunity to wear the colors of your favorite team.

Flambeau Food Court vendors "cook up" a good time with such favorites as jambalaya, crawfish pasta, muffulettas, pizza and gator-on-a-stick. Enjoy Louisiana goodies like bread pudding and king cake.

The Art Market features local and regional artisans' booths of specialty arts & crafts available throughout the festival weekend.

Royal Pass tickets are available online and will be available for purchase on site during the festival

Yep. So much more "family oriented" than the alternative.

It used to be fun until they began bringing in bigger named bands. Now it's too damn crowded especially if you have kids.

We go sometimes. Bring the kids to hear music for a while then go into the parade viewing tents to eat and drink for free from vendors I do business with while watching Ceaser

If it's simply the musical acts one wants to hear, one can simply go to the parades on the sidewalk side of Veterans and still hear them. It's a nice thing.

I went a few years back with my wife, there was an up and coming singer she wanted to see. Cowboy Mouth happened to be playing that day. They played a couple of songs off of a new album at the time, and the crowd wasn't really into any of it. The lead tried to egg the crowd on with a "oh, don't tell me this is a 'Jenny Says' crowd"... and everyone started cheering. He was clearly annoyed, they powered through a crappy version of the song, and then everyone went back to not really caring who was on stage.

In short: Yes, lead-singer-who-isn't-important-enough-to-remember, you are Cowboy Mouth, it's 201X, consider yourself fortunate that you have a "Jenny Says" crowd at all.
