We go twice a year. Kids, grandkids and wife all love it. Not much of a downside.

I love the place. We go fairly often. We stay at the Grand at least once a year. My dad has a little condo on the bay that is a nice getaway too.
Like you said, Fairhope Inn is nice. I also like Dragonfly Food Bar and the Wash House. Fairhope Brewing Co. is also a nice place if you like craft beer.

My district office is there.
Beautiful place.
No crime.
Expensive.
Lots of new money in the area.
Like someone else said, best city in the state.

I live in Fairhope. Moved from Mobile last year, but my father has lived here since the 1980's. What would you like to know?

Old friend of mine is the General Manager at the Chris Steakhouse in Mobile and he lives in Daphne. How is that place?

This dude knows what he is talking about. Also, Jesse's (actually in Magnolia Springs, but close), Camillia Cafe, Tamara's, And Thyme by the Bay are all excellent.

Avoid this place.. Stay away for the safety of your family. It gets overrun by 1 star people from louisiana, invading the space of the 5 star people that live there. Don't come here.

What's going in My Place?
How's the restaurant on the pier?
When is Another Broken Egg going to open?

Sunset Cafe isn't bad either.
Jesses is the best restaurant in the county.

Daphne is nice, but it isn't quite as swanky as Fairhope. Daphne has a lot of big box stores and chain restaurants, which is really nice and convenient, but Fairhope is sort of the opposite in that respect. More emphasis on locally owned boutique stores and restaurants. Nicer beach in Fairhope, but Daphne is closer to Mobile. If you work in Mobile, that can be a big plus.

What's it like? Food? Cost of living? Compared to Mobile? What's the best area to live? It's small, but I'm assuming there is a good and bad place to live. How is it to get to Mobile from Fairhope?
ETA: for frame of reference I live in Houston now in an area like the Heights. Lots of homes well over $750k.

1. My Place was awesome, but the owner accidentally let the lease run out. He owns a couple of other places in town (Plow and Bome and Barrell), but it sucks that My Place is gone.
2. Shuxters is really good and a very nice place to go considering the location and quality of food. A little pricey, but how many restaurants are there on a pier around here?
3. I don't know. Should be pretty soon.

You'll love it if you're an old woman who likes to stroll down street and window shop. Cute little area.

I love this place. They changed ownership 2-3 years ago and have not missed a beat. I do wish they would bring back that baked oyster app though.

Coater and his wife love this place, but I have yet to try it.

Just got back from a weekend there. One thing stood out to me, it's the furthest thing from a melting pot I've ever seen. Just an observation, wasn't a very difficult one.

Shuxters is nice, if you want to eat on a pier & warch turds float by after a heavy rain. Fairhope has a very poor septic system.

My father in law has a house 2 blocks away from the Grand and it's awesome. Love going there sitting on the porch swing looking over the bay.

Put out an APB for FairhopeTider. He is probably still rubbing strawberry Smucker's on his balls after last night.

Been there many times. It's a nice place to raise a family but it's not exactly a place with lots to do.

What's it like? It is incredibly nice. The food scene here is unbelievable considering the size of the town. i would advocate for any of the restaurants that I have seen mentioned in this thread.
The "best area to live"?? Well, how much are you willing to spend? Having a house on the boardwalk just south of the Grand Hotel would be a really nice place to live if you have $5-10MM that you aren't using. There is only 1 bad part of Fairhope, and I am pretty sure that you would know it if you saw it. It's the part between Highway 98 and the Fruit & Nut. The rest is mostly varying degrees of middle/upper class homes.
Cost of living is difficult to explain without a 2-way conversation. The house we built would have been a lot more expensive in the part of Mobile that I lived (Spring Hill), but I paid way more than it would cost in West Mobile. Also, over here, the public schools are among the best in the state. But, we also have Bayside Academy, which is the most expensive private school in the state, so again, you can spend as much as you want over here.
To commute to Mobile isn't terrible. You will get used to it and actually, it will become part of your routine. I don't have to commute to work, but I used to and it was actually nice to have 45 minutes to mentally get into work mode.
Keep em coming if you have more questions. I am hitting the sack, but I'll answer in the AM.
