I had minor ones for several years. About a year ago, all of sudden, I was outside and it was like the floodgates opened. At first, I thought I was seeing a bunch of gnats or bugs of some kind. It was really scary. Went to the ophthalmologist right away. He sent me to a Retina specialist and I did have a partial detachment of the Retina, which he fixed with laser surgery. Just went back for a 6 month check up and everything looks good, but now I have to see the Retina doctor at least once a year.

My father just had surgery on both eyes for this due to floaters. One eye they had to attach his retina and the other was only partially torn.

Yep, this is the "serious medical condition" floater I wrote about earlier. Generally speaking, symptoms are the sudden appearance of several floaters accompanied by a strobe light sensation in the eye.

THIS OFTEN MEANS A DETACHED RETINA WHICH, IF NOT TREATED QUICKLY, CAN RESULT IN BLINDNESS.

A good friend of mine encountered this, but had surgery performed to reattach his retina. Post-op was a bitch--immobility for weeks--but his sight is now restored.

Thanks. It's definitely something I won't mess around with. At each appointment, the doctor really encourages me to immediately call if I notice them worsening, or of course, see flashes of light, which is a definite indicator of a detached retina.

My mom and I both have had silver floaters in our vision for years. We've both been checked out and were told they were ocular migraine. I also suffer from full blown classic migraines with aura as well.

I tend to have low blood pressure and experience the floaters more often upon standing up from a sitting or lying down position, although they can also happen at any time - even when I'm being still. My eyes check out fine so far. I guess it's all in my head.
