Explain the appeal of Summer

For those of you that love the summer months, can you please explain the appeal of it?
The highs I've seen for the upcoming weekend are 102 degrees. That's fricking miserable to me. We are planning on going to a backyard BBQ for the 4th. Quite honestly, I don't want to sit outside in this insufferable heat and eat a bunch of heavy BBQ.
Summer is easily the worst season of the year. How can anyone in the Southern US can enjoy it is beyond me. What's the appeal? Sit out by the pool and just bake? Swim in a hot river or lake?

Summers here are really hot and uncomfortable because of the humidity. The heat in Arizona was awesome because while it was hot, it wasn't insufferable.

There is no temperature hot enough that will prevent me from doing something I like to do.
Cold will definitely prevent me from doing something I otherwise enjoy.
