My sister climbed Everest in a wheel chair

I plan on climbing a rice levee tomorrow. That's high enough for me.

Its not even an an accomplishment anymore. It's like a dude ranch for climbers until the summit push when it becomes a crapshoot of death against weather and dumbasses who make terrible decisions.
I just watched Sherpas documentary on discovery and this is pretty much spot on. It's a bunch of westerner douche nozzles that are coddled by the Sherpas. They do all the heavy lifting. They were bringing them tea and hot towels to their tents in the upper camps. There are so many people going up that they get traffic jams

If I'm going to claim that I'm going to climb something one day I'm claiming that I'm going to climb K2. I'm not settling for a lesser fake goal like Everest. Anyone can pretend they're going to climb that. K2 is for experienced bullshitters.

I just saw that, too. Same impression, and it's been a rough couple years up there.
And another on the tougher climbs list is Meru, which also has a great doc by the same name.

Yeah. But not everyone makes it.
While it isn't the highest mountain in the world, I think summiting K-2 would be a more meaningful accomplishment. There is no tougher mountain on earth to climb and only 300 people have summited (compare that to the 4,000 people who have made it to the top of Everest).

How much do ya'll think people pay guides to take them up Everest? I watched the movie "Everest" a few days ago and in one scene Beck Weathers says something to the effect of "I didn't pay you 65k to wait in lines on this mountain like I'm in Wal-Mart". Wonder how that price has increased 20 years later.

I'll just wait for that Man Made Climate Change to make it about like the rice levee mentioned earlier in thread. Once the thing has thawed and all the water has washed the thing down to size, it should be really easy. Plus the mud should make tracking Yeti's easier.
Just gotta hope they don't find that perfect amount of taxation to halt the carbon emissions before I get my chance. So no matter what, everyone keep exhaling so I can climb that mountain!

I think they said it's something like $50k-$75k

If you take on climbing Everest you should have to sign something saying you're aware no money will be spent on a rescue party.
climbers buy insurance with outfits that specialize in rescue if you are fricked.

I'm surprised it hasn't increased then. I don't think you could pay me 50-70k to climb that mountain . You're literally killing yourself at that altitude. Count me out.

bet they didn't see that in the brochure.
we'll never see the details of how many days she spent acclimating at each stage. not enough.

I would imagine the same. The window of opportunity to summit is so narrow that you don't have time to just hang out up there and adapt.

Know a guy from Birmingham who would have been the first over 50 to summit all 7 sisters. Everest was hit last one and this was his fourth attempt (circumstamces outside of his control intervened). He suffered a PAL his first week and is now officially finished as a climber. He trained twenty four straight months.

Is there a base camp only option? I would go and eat pancakes every morning and watch these nutts die one by one while adjusting the telescope with my buttery Aunt Jemima fingers.
