Another train accident just happened in Tangipahoa Parish. This time in Independence. Not sure of the extent of the injuries right now but it looks pretty bad.
2 weeks ago 2 24 year old guys were killed less than 5 miles away from this wreck when they went around the arms and tried to beat the train. Dumb as shite move there.

Have you ever had a close call while trying to beat the train?

when i was in my early teens, me and some friends jumped on a train passing near our neighborhood. i slipped when i jumped and barely got one foot on the ladder. my heart was beating so fast i stayed on for about 1/2 block , jumped off an never tried it again.

Nope. You have to be a special kind of stupid to get hit by a train

yep, my wife's uncle was killed because the tanker truck in front of him at the crossing decided to try to beat the train and didn't.

I just read that the 2 ladies involved were 80 and 82.
One of them was attempting to lift the arm while the other drove around it.

her uncle was the first vehicle behind the truck. his car and a few behind him were engulfed.this happened back in the 70's.

No, but I have blown through a crossing without looking.

There is a rural road I take sometimes and it has a train crossing on it. No lights or bars, just a painted Xing on the road. A few times I've just gone right through without thinking of looking. It's not just me either, most people on that road go through without looking. Weird imo to have a train crossing without any lights.

They should probably make it easier to figure out where the trains pass and put a light or horn or something on the front of them. Then, people probably wouldn't get killed as much.

I even have a slogan for our ad and awareness campaign.

"Trains(dramatic music plays here): The Silent Killers"(tm)
If that doesn't pop with the people, I could also go with "Trains: The Ninjas of Freight".

Lame joke time.

Blonde and brunette walking, they stop next to a set of tracks.

The blonde says those are deer tracks.

Brunette says nope, those are bear tracks.

They were still arguing about it when the train came along and ran over them.

Once in college. Chick backed out last second and made me and my bud hit it separately.

Back when I was in my twenties, I was driving on a four lane road in Irving, TX by I-35. Line of cars stopped at a train crossing in the right lane. I think "dummies, the arms are up and there are no lights or bells going off." So I cruise down the left lane looking to my right at the idiots just sitting there.

About the time I hit the tracks, I look to my left and the train is RIGHT THERE. Maybe 20 yards away, he nails the horn and I almost crap my drawers.

Come to find out he was coupling / de-coupling some cars (which is when the engine goes back and forth in short lengths) so it didn't trip the crossing signal. The locals knew that went on at that intersection and were waiting it out. LSU kid almost got killed.
