Let's say, hypothetically you are a teacher. A student's father in your class was shot in a home invasion a week ago, and the suspect has not been found. The father is ok; and the student is still upset, but in good spirits. Being a CCL, you notice that there is a firearm in the students possession (the student is 18). Would you immediately alert the principal and have the student escorted out and arrested, or escort the student to his vehicle and have him place the weapon in his car (legal in the state of GA).

What says the rant?

Your job as a teacher is to notify the authorities. Your personal beliefs have no role in the decision.

What does his father being shot in a home invasion have anything to do with bringing a firearm to a campus?

I would assume the kid is scared and feels helpless. Georgia gun laws are actually the most lax in the nation, which is obviously a moot point as it is illegal.

Fwiw, I would immediately notify the principal. I do think I would feel for the kid.

I guess it depends on whether or not you think you're quicker on the draw than he he is.

Escort him quietly to his car or better yet tell him to take the rest of the day off and not to bring anything against the rules into the classroom if he had anything to begin with (plausible deniability).

What you definitely need is an emotionally compromised 18 year old with a gun on campus. Get real, dude.

Doubtful, Dad came home from lunch, interrupted break in, got shot. Never dealt with that personally, so no idea what he would be thinking

Pretty sure like in most states there is a giant sign that says the campus is a gun free zone. Escort the student to the principal and have him make the decision.

Kid is an A-B student, college bound, athlete. Mom is a teacher, dad owns a company. Good kid. Not upset in the "f the world sense" just feels for his dad.

Tell him that if he has anything concealed that he shouldn't he should bring it to his car now.

Great but no excuse for bringing a gun to school. Don't justify his breaking the rules.

Heart says escort him out to his car and send him home with the admonition.

Head says what if he uses it in or out of school and the question arises why didn't you do something?

Consult with a lawyer or talk to the principal.

Maybe you are wrong. Even with your CCL.
