Costs $10 per credit bureau (so $30) and $10 to unfreeze. A company you have no directly established relationship with lets your information get hacked and then you have to pay them to protect yourself. That's some mafia protection money bullshite right there.

This is incorrect.

tried to follow reddit's advice regarding a TRUE credit report.

0-3

- experian: we are sorry, you need to send us a self-addressed stamped envelope at this time because our online system is offline
- equifax: sorry, we are unable to generate online reports, please send a self-addressed steamped envelope
- transunion: frick you, we're completely offline and won't even allow you to check.

i motherfricking hate these credit companies. they play games and won't even provide the free service the government requires of them.

quote:

1) Get a copy of your credit report today.

Regardless of freeze, alert, or regular credit monitoring get your current credit report to keep on file so you can identify anything new that shouldn’t be there in the future.

frick CreditKarma, frick FreeCreditReport, frick all that shite, you want the real stuff.

Annualcreditreport.com (We killed it, Jim. Try again later when not everyone on reddit is trying to access it.)

REEE HAIL CORPORATE PLUGGING THEIR SITE REEEE

No. The Federal Government of the United States requires each of those three credit agencies give you a free copy of your credit report every year and this is the only authorized site to actually collect on that. Usually I’d suggest not getting them all at once but if you can’t afford to keep paying for all this crap then go ahead and pull all three at once. Again, if you’re like me and move around a lot the website may not like you very much. Jump through its stupid hoops to get it mailed if you have to. The credit agencies have to honor your request. Document this shite well.

If you don't believe me see any of the following links. This is the only real free credit report site.

that's a big NOPE. its completely broken.

It sounds like yesterday Equifax decided to waive the fee to freeze your credit, but according to the NYT they have not said whether they would waive the charge to lift the freeze, something that you'd need to do to use your credit after you've frozen it.

It differs by state but in Louisiana
TransUnion, Experian and Equifax all charge $10 to freeze your credit and $8 each time you want to lift the freeze.

My father in law already got screwed by the Equifax stuff. Very next day someone was trying to get credit under his name.

The hack occurred a few months ago. It was just reported a week ago. Maybe just a coincidence

Well I have three apps tracking my credit movement and I've notified my bank to flag my account for any irregular activity. However, it seems Capital One has already done it for me.

I say that if a company fricks up my shite, that is their problem and not mine...If I suffer a loss as a result of their frickup, they will have to deal with it.

That's how I feel. I track my credit almost weekly. If something goes off I'm going after them.

How are you sure about this? I've read in several instances that if you check on the Equifax website, it is giving random generated responses that you were exposed so you'll sign up for the TrustedID service.

I tried to get my credit report from annualcreditreport,

Equifax couldn't give me the report online and want me to snailmail them an extended form with all my information. frick them

Experian gave me the report.

Transunion said their site was overloaded and to check back later.
