I just began work with a small health and safety/engr consultant. They drug test b/c of the clearinghouses used by clients...lots of refinery clients.

At what point are you tested? After they offer you the position and before your 1st day of work? Thanks for the responses.

Yep. When you hire on and then you are subject to random's. I've been working 6 years and never had a random drug test. Lol. I'll probably get one now.

I've worked at two eng. firms. One tested and the other did not.
Well they aren't gonna pay for your drug test if they aren't going to hire you.

It depends on the field. O&G for sure to get a twic card. I'm a general civil and have worked for multiple firms and have never even thought about a drug test.

Negative. I'm chemical and will be going to work for a Fortune 10 company. I think the smaller the company, the less likely you will be hair tested IMO so i would be very surprised if you do.
ETA: Hair testing in general seems uncommon to me and i have only really heard of Shell, Exxon, etc. doing it. My buddy went to work for GE and they dont do it
