My mom saw him on the Hayride. She wasn't impressed. She thought he was trashy. Mom was a Hank Snow girl.

He also played Vegas AND Hawaii!
I believe he got his start at The Hayride which, at the time, was second in the country only to the Grand Ole Opry. I don't think people in Louisiana quite grasp how big of a deal the Louisiana Hayride was.
The Shreveport Municipal Auditorium has some pretty cool statues of Elvis and James Burton (from the Shreveport area).

I saw Elvis in the Assembly Center around that time. Tickets were $5.50, I believe.
I have seen many many concerts and big acts over the years. Nothing has compared to the energy in that building.

I feel like I did my sleuthing of the day. Figuring out that that poster is from Waco and not Louisiana.

Well we definitely know your Youtube handle now.
*My parents went to this show.

My mom was a huge Elvis fan back in the day.
I remember being 6 years old in 1975 and mom going to the concert in Lake Charles with her friends. I surely didn't comprehend Elvis' swag at that age. Dad just told me, "son, you wouldn't understand."

Elvis played a show at Bastrop's Southside Elementary School on Feb. 24, 1955 and according to smalltown legend got into a fistfight with the late Bastrop policeman Harry Howard at a local diner. I've heard conflicting accounts of which diner.
