Not an OT baller, so Tesla is out.

Wife and I have narrowed the choices down to the Nissan Leaf (107 mi range) or VW Golf electric (83 mi range). Both ranges work for the distance my wife commutes everyday, but the higher range of the Leaf is surely a bonus. Both cars are still eligible for the $7500 federal tax credit.

Any other cars we should be looking at?

Leaf is nice. My mom commutes in Covington in one. The range isn't bad for a local commute.

How good is the range on your moms Leaf?
How about when she runs A/C or heat?

The a/c or heat doesn't affect it much, maybe like a tiny bit. She gets like 100 miles after a full charge. Never needs an oil change, just a tire rotation every now and then. She had a guy from California a couple times charge his Tesla because she's on this thing called plugshare where other electric car owners can see her charging station on a map and can come and charge if they want. They really need more charging stations though. They have super fast ones at the Nissan dealerships and I think some at whole foods in Metairie.

A gallon of gas is cheaper than a gallon of spring water. Why would you do this? Get a used midsize car you can afford to buy with cash. Keep only liability insurance on it.

If you really cared about the environment, you wouldn't keep adding cars to the fleet, you would repurpose an older one.

Well people buy a Prius because they think they are environmental. They are economic but far from environmental
