I'd say access to emergency care can find a place in any budget.

So basically we're going to open a clinic where they can all come in for treatment of whatever ails them and they're guaranteed treatment regardless of ability to pay?

Exactly, I work at one of these. Treated just like an ER, can't turn anyone away even if they can't pay. It's mostly colds and BS but few times a day you get some idiots that come in with something serious and you have to transfer them to the hospital. It's just a PR move so people who don't have transportation but have Medicaid can come in everytime they stub their toe or get a cough

They will probably have an ER but not a trauma center. They will admit to OLOL main campus. A few labs and x-rays will be on site.
The way those idiots use the ER is disgusting and hurts the people that really need it.

this guy i dont think will ever be happy

For every black person upset about the murder of black men at the hands of law enforcement consider this.... Every time local & state government skips over black companies or projects and supports the white plan that is a bullet shot into the black economy. It is an injustice.
We are told pick ourselves up by our bootstraps but denied access. We are told come up with plans that are doable, and when we do you give the money to the white company. We are told if we do this or that we would get the contracts, but the truth is its all bull crap. Just like the excuses given when cops kill unarmed black people in America.
Justice isn't just convicting cops. It's giving equity in contracts and opportunity. When the government gave us voting rights and civil rights that was easier to comply with because it didn't make them miss any money. Every time white leaders do projects in our community and black people don't gain financially from it, we are done an injustice.
The sad part is our black leaders don't think like that

So if you know (or company) knows they can't pay, is there even a collections attempt at time services are rendered or after?

Gary Chambers, a co-chair of the blue ribbon commission, asked the governor at his news conference why Edwards did not choose Champion and pointed out Our Lady of the Lake's past hesitancy to build in north Baton Rouge.

Edwards doubled down on the state's partnership with Our Lady of the Lake. He said it made sense to use Our Lady of the Lake, the state's built-in partner for healthcare, to build an emergency room instead of a for-profit company based in Texas.

"My commitment was to the people of Baton Rouge, not to any healthcare provider," Edwards said. "And I certainly looked at the proposal which came from Champion, which doesn't run an emergency room anywhere, doesn't have a transfer agreement in Baton Rouge, runs boutique specialty hospitals that typically do not take Medicaid, and has not been approved by CMS to deliver emergency room care."

Crowd pleasing move. With no hospital to admit patients, this is a glorified urgent care with a CT scanner. Any admission is going to have to be transferred by ambulance mostly. Acadian is going to make bank off this deal.

All the trauma from N BR may mistakenly be brought there for "stabilization" when what they need is an OR.

It's a free standing ED, meaning they won't take any ambulances. A gunshot wound or any really sick person would have to come through the door and then transported by ambulance to OLOL once stabilized.

This. I'm an ER RN at the Lake. This is all just to shut up the masses. Anything above urgent care level illnesses will be transfered to the Lake and no traumas will ever be brought there. It's all for show.

t is a huge step in the right direction, but it shouldn't be enough for anyone in Baton Rouge, to be honest.

Baton Rouge can't get out of its own way. What better way to create a hole in your budget than building a more convenient way for public aid recipients to bypass their primary care physicians.

I swear, the catering and pandering to the poor in this State will leave it flat broke for generations.

That's every hospital. Why do you think medical costs are so high? You're paying for you AND those that don't pay their bill. It's also why insurance premiums are so high too.

It's probably the easiest way to figure out if the person arguing that we don't need to reform the medical system is uneducated. They hate the idea of free health care without realizing that it's already happening.

As someone working the ER at the lake, you should use a little deductive reasoning and understand that this helps the Lake main campus as much as it helps sick people in North Baton Rouge. Now, a bunch of those people coming to you for non-emergency needs will be treated there and not take up valuable ER resources. It's basically a remote triage for you.

Fat Gary has been FREAKING out about OLOL getting to open the ER. He is in serious melt down mode and it's hysterical. He didn't get crappy Champion the job like he promised and is now calling everyone names.

I guarantee you that he had some consulting agreement with Champion in the event they were able to open. No doubt about it. I know for an absolute 100% fact that the reason the governor brought OLOL in was because he did NOT like fat Gary and didn't want to have to deal with him because he is such a loud mouth. Couldn't have happened to a better person.

Gary had his hands in Champions pocket for sure. Tell me one good reason beside that? He's been "Championing " them pretty hard for some time now and when a proposal for an ER in NBR finally looks like it's going to happen, he's upset.
