The planet continues to set global temperature records and not in a good way. According to the United Kingdom’s Met Office, the Earth’s surface temperature will reach 1°C above pre-industrial levels this year for the first time.

The Met Office’s Hadley Center for Climate Science, in conjunction with the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit, based its estimate on temperatures from January through September, which show the global mean surface temperature at 1.02°C above pre-industrial levels. The margin of error for this temperature measurement is 0.11°C.

The peak in global temperatures this year is being partially driven by the development of a very strong El Niño in the Tropical Pacific Ocean. Human activity, however, remains the underlying driver according to scientists. "We've had similar natural events in the past, yet this is the first time we're set to reach the 1°C marker and it's clear that it is human influence driving our modern climate into uncharted territory," said Stephen Belcher, Director of the Met Office Hadley Center.

I learned back in early 2000 that when you raise the global temp 1 degree C, you will trigger an Ice Age.

The time is nigh.

Who was taking all these measurements in the pre industrial era?

So...before there were reliable "global" temperature readings (which only date back about 140 years)?

You mean, the ones that got busted manipulating climate data?

The margin of error for this temperature measurement is 0.11°C

So, +/- 11% MOE?

But, by all means, let's get everyone all wound up about it because...

Human activity, however, remains the underlying driver according to scientists

This is what passes for "science" these days.

So, still not breaking a record. It was still much hotter for millions of years than it is now. God damn Soccer-mom dinosaurs and their damn HUGE SUVs.

Are they still using the data that has been fibbed or have they redone the redone data?

I find it mind boggling that these same "scientists" came out just two weeks ago and said the Sun had wrecked the climate of Mars but hardly mention the Sun when talking about Earth's climate.

Oh, if only we had not industrialized. We could all still be farmers living to the ripe old age of 50, pulling a paltry living from the soil and content in our uniform poverty.

Damn you global warming! Damn you industry!
