One of the saddest days in U.S. History.

Was the shooter on the roof?

It's slightly uphill, iirc.

Martin Luther King Jr. was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968. King was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. that evening.
That Morning thing might be incorrect but it made a good song

He was shot at 6 PM.
quote:
King had gone out onto the balcony and was standing near his room when he was struck at 6:01 p.m., by a single .30-06 bullet fired from a Remington Model 760.[16] The bullet entered through King's right cheek, breaking his jaw and several vertebrae as it traveled down his spinal cord, severing his jugular vein and major arteries in the process, before lodging in his shoulder. The force of the shot ripped off King's necktie. King later fell violently backward onto the balcony, unconscious.

The American Experience: Roads to Memphis episode is excellent. James Earl Ray was completely nuts. Thought he was helping Wallace become president by killing King.

Bono forgot to bone up on his history. "Early evening" would have worked as a lyric too.

Does this mean he was wearing a clip-on? Or did the bullet actually cut through the tie on its way out of the neck and into the shoulder?

Delusional. Almost as delusional as "honoring" King by plastering his name on crime ridden streets where shootings are common.

Let's not forget that this was also the birth of the greatest Race Hustler in history "Reverend" Jesse Jackson. JJ was in the parking lot on the ground floor and hid after the shots but went on national TV the next day in a bloody shirt (no one knows where he got the blood) and claimed to have held Dr. King as he died. All a complete fabrication confirmed by multiple witnesses for years.

I just left the Lorraine Hotel. It was very quiet and still. Almost peaceful.

Is that Marty's harem standing at the bottom of the stairs?

It is a powerful museum. Going across the street to the hotel room and seeing where the shooter was positioned is quite profound
