Dumpster Diving
Posted by GalvestonTiger12 on 6/23/15 at 4:31 pm00
Who's done it before? Lil bros wanna try to do it at gamestop. I think it's dumb as shite and what poor people do. What says the OT?
Also is it legal in Baton Rouge and livingston parish? If it has a small gate all the way around the dumpster is that illegal as well?

I do it at Harbor Freight. The tools are terrible to begin with. You'd be shocked with the crap I found.

Buddy of mine built quite a few computers dumpster diving at comp USA... They finally put a padlock on it when he was busted doing so...

Does shopping at a thrift store count?

Usually nails.
But you can find some banged up shite of all kinds. My grandfather can fix most of them.

It's what you do if you've hit the absolute pits, and you are desperate for food. I don't know. Maybe you will find something worth while. More likely you will find Bob's partially unfinished lunch.

My son and his friends used to do it when they were in high school. One time someone called the cops and police cars showed up in force. Threw him up against the car and frisked him. The cop says "what do we have here" thinking he had some joints in his pocket. Emptied his pockets and it was a half eaten bag of Cheetos. They let the kids go.

I don't see why they would really care, unless it's sensitive documents that should be getting shredded anyway. I mean they are throwing it out.

I don't dumpster dive but I do pick up used washers and dryers and pay a guy $20 each to clean them and paint them after I fix them. If I can't fix them I give them away to a scrapper minus any copper or good parts that can go on Ebay(It's not worth risking getting flats at the scrap yard for 20-40$). I sell about 2-3 a week with an average profit of $100 each. Then warranty them through my company (and make people pay tax, people hate paying tax but I have to pay tax on them because I sell a lot) and sell them out my shop. That's not counting the ones I buy through my appliance recycling company.

i've pulled a couple of giant cardboard boxes out of a recyclables bin when i was getting ready to move but that's as far as my skillz reach

No.
I wouldn't do it but go look on r/dumpsterdiving for the shite people find. Lot's of legit stuff that retail stores throw away.
A friend of mine used to work at Home Depot and he would get pissed when they were told to cut the cords on power tools and dump them. People will go get them, replace the cords, and have some cheap tools. Now they destroy them to preven this.
Also, there is this man in Austin making 6 figures per year dumpster diving.

Napoleon, I have a nice LG washer sitting in my garage if you want it. I think the only thing wrong with it is the water ejection pump. It even has the under mount storage drawer
