Fixing up a room with new dry wall.

Which is the preferred drywall by the upperclass of the OT, smooth or textured?

I'd match the rest of the house, but if you're doing a room at a time smooth.
Orange peel for midrange rental.

Do whatever finish that's used throughout the rest of the house. I like textured, but I wouldn't texture if the rest of the walls are a smooth finish.

Smooth level 5 finish is the best IMO.

More costly and harder to execute though.

In this case I'd just match the rest of your house.

Your texture is going to help hide any imperfections you might have at your joints...if you decide to go smooth I hope you have some good float work done.

Smooth.

Textured is for people who watch too much hgtv.

I've had clients turn around and walk out over textured finish on walls. Never over smooth.

Eta: Sorry. I misunderstood. As a previous poster said: stay consistent with the rest of the house.

Textured is a dust catcher. Harder to clean.

I like textured. Pick the one you like. Don't mind all the stupid comments.
