My Samsung dryer is not putting out any heat. Don't have time to fix it myself.
Who y'all got?

probably a simple fix, but if you are going to pay someone to fix it, you might as well buy a new one. Won't be much difference.

A couple of years ago my dryer wouldn't heat. Turns out, the breaker was just barely making contact. Just enough to turn the timer but not enough to supply electricity to the heating coil.

A least flip your breaker completely off; then flip it back on. Don't just eyeball it. I made that mistake.

guys this here is the WORST advice you will EVER see in an Appliance thread. Sure if you call Sears or a giant corporate store they will try and get you to buy a new one.

Friday I had a call for a Whirlpool Duet dryer in Metairie. Old couple. They were quoted at $928 for repair, which is insane. Were told that both boards were bad (even then it would be closer to $450). I get there for a second opinion. The child lock is on. Holding down the signal button for 3 seconds fixed it and saved them all that money. Since I didn't even have to take out my tool bag I let them go for free.

If your drum turns and you have no heat it's only going to be one of two things.....

A bad Thermostat (hi limit or cycling, each is cheap) or a bad heating element/ igniter) (a gas dryer could also have bad coils, but thats usually after years and years of use)

Most likely you have a simple fix. Find a repairman with a service fee between 65-85, don't call a national company or someone with more than six technicians.

I would charge you $125 if a thermal is bad -$145 if it's the limiting. $165 -180 for the element.

If you wanted an idea of prices.

Buy from Sears because Kenmore is great and they have good deals, but if you call Sear's A&E you better line your bunghole with vaseline.

My Baton Rouge guy is Michael Lamb. LINK

Very straight forward and honest. He is just a two man shop but he goes to the national conventions every year and stays current. I don't know his area, but he is BR based so I would think he goes to P-ville

It's probably the heating element. I'm pretty much a retard when it comes to mechanical things and I was able to swap the one on my dryer out with little work.

Should be inexpensive both to repair yourself and also calling a service to do it for you.

You recommend Kenmore refrigerator as well?

I have read your threads about appliances, and I have decided that I am getting the cheap and simple washer and dryers, and to stay away from the cabrio and other fancy stuff.

It's not that I'm against big companies, I want to get there too. It's that I know the owners of the number 1 and 3 company in my area and both have a seven - ten day backlog before they can even see you. Then an average return of 10-14 days if they need parts.
I try to do a 3-4 day turn around if I need parts. I try to schedule all jobs within 48 hours of their call. (24 hours if a fridge).
My friend who is a manager at a big guy told me they have open work orders that extend back to May, and one from Feburary. My oldest work order that is open now is from July 31, and only because it's a huge job that didn't have to be done until September (installing timers in pay machine washers and dryers so they will take dollars). I think a lot of people got the big company treatment and it turns them off to repair. I suggest to them they use Angie's list or Yelp even and look for a smaller local shop that isn't trying to just use them only to further profits(we call them Parts Changing Monkeys) and get one that NEEDS their business. In 2015 you can't tell people it takes 7-10 days for a part to come in, when we have free next day shipping from the big two suppliers and five part centers in the city and Amazon.

depends. Kenmore hasn't made a refrigerator since 1979. Anything that is Kenmore is made by someone else, and then a Kenmore badge is put on it. The Kenmores made by Frigidaire and Whirlpool are great. The Kenmores made by the Koreans have issues.

So would I be doing fine buying a Whirlpool or Frigidaire in my price range? Not really looking to spend more than $1800, would like to get it down to around $1500.

I have used "At Once Appliance repairs" a couple times before and they treated me fairly. Small 1 man operation I believe.

A quick google search will give you his number.

you looking for a side by side? A french door? Bottom Freezer? Top freezer?

Certain brands are better than others for the different types of units.

Kinda like the idea of the refrigerated sliding drawer, but it's not a must have.

@Napoleon- I was hoping you'd jump in on my washer and dryer thread yesterday. Any recommendations on a good set? I really just need a set that is efficient. I don't need all the fancy bells and whistles.

How much would bad coils run for a gas dryer? Also, is that something a layman watching a youtube howto video could fix?

I'm Mr. Speed Queen for sure. But if you just want a cheap set that will last for a few years and be easy on the wallet for repairs. I would get the cheapest Frigidaire, or Hotpoint (even though I hate GE it's the simplest on the market now) or a Roper.

Coils are universal. There are two types the old type which hasn't been used since 1992, and the new type. The new type costs me about $15 a set, you can get them cheaper on Amazon. No matter which brand you have, get the Whirlpool brand coils because all Whirlpool parts carry a 1-year warranty which is solid.

Most of the time you don't even have to take the drum out.

And yes there are tons of great youtube videos out there.

make sure you use part number 279834
