Scientists seeking a cure for HIV/Aids have said a drug designed to combat alcoholism might be able to draw out the dormant virus from hiding in the body and allow it to be killed.

The drug, branded as Antabuse but also sold as a generic called disulfiram, was given to 30 HIV positive patients in the US and Australia who were already taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) drugs.

At the highest given dose there was evidence that “dormant HIV was activated”, the researchers said in a study published in The Lancet HIV journal on Monday, adding they did not find any harmful side-effects.

Nice try mom. I'm not going to AA or taking your fake HIV highlighter pills.

As far as I know from rehab, there isn't a pill they give alcoholics. They never asked me to be on it

That's odd, because there are several different drugs used to treat addiction. Naltrexone is one.

Maybe you had the discount plan....

This drug is rarely prescribed anymore. It makes you vomit violently if you ingest even small amounts of alcohol.

The million dollar question is how completely it reactivates the dormant viruses.

Paid cash (which was cheaper than what they charge insurance). They never offered me drugs, but that might've been because I was in jail for a bit before checking in and hadn't drank in a while. I don't remember anyone else there for drinking taking meds either.
