I'm pretty sure Directv offers wireless boxes now. I think you pay $100 extra up front for that though.

Should have done this before the NFL season. You would've received nfl tix for free this year.

No, they have to use their cables for the two satellite transponder thing or however it works anyway so you won't have that problem

Same here. Watched tv the whole time during the last hurricane.

I used to work for Cox (thank goodness), it's probably shitty rg 59. The reason the tech doesn't want to do it because it's too much work and we don't do two story house. They're basically getting paid $10 to do a job that will take 2-3 hrs. It's hard to tell with D-Tv since they uses different freq

But at least you'll be able to join the fraternity that participates in the lost signal/channel dispute threads that pop up on a weekly basis. Missing the World Series and the entire NFL lineup seemed pleasurable.

did you talk to cox retention department or customer loyalty department and tell them of this switch before? they usually come with a tremendous plan for you if you threaten to leave.. but you have to speak to the different department.. it also helps if you discuss what all you you were getting with the new company.

any ways, you seem set on direct tv, which is fine and i hope it works out.. but i would always see about a better price before switching.. every year or two my cox bill goes back to full price and all i have to do is call in and talk to those departments and they give me a better deal so i stay with them. i just prefer cable over satellite, but have no complaints to those who enjoy satellite.

This. I'd recommend learning to point the dish yourself also. It's flipping easy. Get 95% and above across all birds and you won't have to worry about even a hard rain messing with your signal.

I did call Cox right before I went with direct. Told them what I was doing and the deal I have received. Customer service just said ok and told me where to drop off my current boxes.

Find out who the contractor is that does Cox installs. They'll usually do outlet installs fairly cheap on the side. You probably have rg59 and need rg6. Also, Cox is responsible for your drop from the pole to the house, so I'd ask for a new one. Depending on how long it is, you might need rg11, service techs usually don't want to run a new one though since they're paid so shitty.

I liked dish better of the two companies. If you have your mind made up. That's cool. There's not a lot of difference. I would just also consider dish.

I seem to recall this is exactly what they said. I know that they already ran the new cable from the outside box to my house. They had to come back later and bury the new cable. I'm certain that just outside my house, I'm up to date.

The last guy was looking at my house, and said he doesn't know how they are going to get it from there to my inner wall. 2 stories, and the attic is so small I don't think anyone could even climb into it. They probably could, but would be really tight.

And after 5th tech was like, this is your problem, call an electrician. I keep trying to call back my customer service rep that told me "she was going to be with me until this was resolved". All I get his her voice mail now. They're avoiding me.

P.S. - My monthly bill is over $300, with internet and phone bundled, and I only get 2 HBO channels. I hate those bastards.

I love my directv. Haven't had any problems. Never lost signal. The rates are decent, and you can negotiate them every so often.

Yeh, when your contract is up tell them you are shopping providers. Wound up getting $30 knocked off my monthly bill and free NFL Sunday Ticket.

I've been thinking about doing the same and I'm really torn about what to do. I know NOTHING about Direct TV. $200 a month for Cox and now I have to purchase a bunch of these mini boxes for my other rooms.
