A Denham Springs man died early Friday morning after hitting a horse with his car near Satsuma in Livingston Parish.

Joshua Marange, 24, was driving east on U.S. 190 around 1 a.m. Friday when his 2000 Buick Park Avenue struck a horse that was standing in the eastbound lane of the highway, east of Satsuma Road, said Trooper Bryan Lee, of the Louisiana State Police.

The impact caused severe damage to Marange's car, which ran off the roadway and struck a tree. Marange was pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner's Office.

The horse also died as a result of the crash, Lee said.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but a toxicology sample was taken for analysis.

Troopers are still working to locate the owner of the horse, Lee said.

I'm going to guess this will be an unchipped, untatooed horse that no one will claim to own.

that's the mane assumption that investigators are going on, there going to have to really saddle up to rein in this case before PETA protesters get involved, can't afford to horse around on this one
