Catholics encourage drinking

Somewhat, but I was in a Catholic wedding once where the priest went off on us for about 10 minutes at the rehearsal, saying if anyone showed up looking or smelling drunk the next day he would make them leave. Funny, you should have seem him putting them away at the reception later.

What is the OTs stance on pregaming before a church wedding?
Speaking for myself, anything beyond one drink is classless. But even better is no drinks or drinking before the service, none at church, and reasonable/moderate at the reception (no puking parties, please).

Your wedding sounds like it was a blast.

Respect the wishes of the bride and groom. If you're a groomsman, you're probably one of the groom's closest friends or the brother of the bride.

A friend of mine got married at like 4:00 or 5:00pm on a Saturday in late June in N.O. (It was jungle hot.) Myself and several other groomsmen were fraternity brothers with the groom and good friends with the bride. She asked us not to get drunk before the wedding and we agreed that we wouldn't. But, in our minds, drinking was allowed.

I showed up at the appointed time - about 2-1/2 hours before the service - with an icechest full of beer for the groomsmen. The Best Man and I were the only 2 of 8 groomsmen who were "on time". We were just opening our 2nd beer when the groom arrived. We gave him one, which he accepted and took a swig of, and he then asked us to please stop drinking. I agreed to stop and finished my beer. The Best Man, who never met a beer he didn't like, immediately stopped drinking and dumped his beer. I'd never seen him do that before and have never seen it since!

The bride's concerned were well founded. One groomsman had been waterskiing all morning and was not only shitfaced, but sunburned. In his defense, he was a Marine home on leave.

I've been happily married to the same beautiful woman for 39 years (it will be 40 in July). We've got three grown kids, grandchildren on the way, and all in all, yes, our wedding and our marriage was and is a blast. So your point is...?

The frick? He would make them leave? How does he have a say in this? The bride and groom are the stars of the show. He's being paid to do a job. Please explain this to me.

For my sisters wedding last year, we all drank a couple shots of remy in the limo on the way to the church. We are catholic too. Haha

I usually wait until the reception, after appearances have been made soberly, to start boozing.

Bad planning if you don't IMO, especially if you're in the wedding.. Stray away from the beer before or you'll have to pee mid ceremony.

Very wise and very true. This for sure.

I guess, but it just seems crazy to me that he would do that.

I'm usually pretty tanked by the time we get in the chapel.

Crazy that a pastor doesn't want obviously drunk people in his church?

Total sign of disrespect. Even if you aren't a believer show a semblance of class and don't get wasted before a wedding, how tacky.

Nothing wrong with one drink before, but y'all are making it sound like y'all want to drink up like its Friday night at the bar.

I'm guess your wedding did/will suck.
