Why so many in such a small town? It's like a mini New Iberia/Lafayette with so many of these firms.

I'm no oilfield expert, but isn't there a fault line that runs thru around there?

What does a Natchez haircut look like?

That ares use to and still does have a decent amount of oil activity, there are a good bit of small oilfield companies there and across the river. There are a handful of fields in Concordia and south of Natchez. Plus Natchez is the biggest town in that area.

I follow callon petroleum pretty closely. They're headquartered in Natchez, Miss., but most of their acreage is in Texas.

Sorry, I used a wrong term there. Not a fault, but the tuscaloosa marine shale trend pretty much goes right thru that area.
Yeh, I know a trend and a fault are two different things....I just remember there being a big interest in drilling around that region years ago.

oil, international paper, and johns manville were booming businesses in the area after the war. sadly, ip and jm closed, and the oil industry has declined.
natchez has relied on tourism and gambling since.

Yea it's right there, but not many people are shooting for the Tuscaloosa currently. Costs a lot of money to produce the O&G from that formation, and that's a lot of money companies currently don't have.

There is some old oil fields in the area. Both on the Mississippi side and Louisiana side. The MS river has nothing to do with fault lines.
The Wilcox and Tuscaloosa Sands are the most popular formations around there.

There were some huge Wilcox fields there back in the 60's and 70's. At one time all the major players had yards and fields in Natchez. The majors all pulled out in the 80's but there are quite a few small firms left.

Yes, symbol CPE. The Ceo is Fred Callon who lives in Natchez. I've bought/sold this one multiple times. Sold at $7.56 in Feb, but got back in at $6.4 last week.
The company has great real estate in Texas.

I worked on one of their rigs when I was in oil services a few years ago. It was pretty old school, up near Yazoo city.
It is kind of surprising that natchez would be a little oil town..you might not hear about a lot of oilfield activity there, but Mississippi and Alabama (and nearby Louisiana for that matter) have tons and tons of old oil wells that are owned by small outfits and probably need routine maintenance. I guess it's easier to order shite from natchez than from Lafayette.
