So I was having this discussion with someone and wanted to take it here.

Do you donate and if you do how much of the supplies etc and money do you think actually make it to people that need it because of the Storm?

This is my take- I worked on a donation drive after the Baton Rouge flooding and after that it's hard for me to donate. I would guess that at least 70% of the people that showed up and grabbed stuff didn't flood and just try to get a bunch of free shite. After all the fraud with the money and the freeloaders looking to just get something for free I just don't see the need to donate when I know it's not going to the right people. First off everyone should have flood insurance and I don't feel sorry for anyone who doesn't purchase it bc that is their decision. After that if I knew my money or donations were going straight to a family that was in need I would be more than happy to help them but I just feel like most of the money and items are being wasted, stolen or given to people that didn't flood and just looking to take free stuff

What's your opinion?

Sooner or later, those people will have to meet the Man upstairs.

I donate because I can. I have the funds to support my family and $50 of donated items wont make or break us. If people decide to be dishonest, well then thats on them but at least I know I tried to do a good deed for those who needed it.

it's better to for everyone to donate and have some pieces of shite take stuff they don't need because at least there are still people in need getting stuff

if we don't donate and help, the ones that need it suffer more than anyone

So let's say that your estimate is accurate, and 70% of the people didn't need the help. That means that 30% did need the help. Are you willing to punish the 30% because of the 70%?

And as for how I personally handle these sorts of things, I prefer to personally help people who I personally know need help. I do less than I should but certainly a lot more than nothing. This probably doesn't work on a large scale though.
