I'm considering putting an invisible fence in my tar for my dog. Anyone have any experience with or reviews of the DogWatch system?

I got a quote for installation and it's quite a load of dough. But if it's a good solution that will last a long time, I'm considering pulling the trigger.

I've used the Pet Safe wireless system which can cover a 1/2 acre and it works really well. Just don't ever let your dog jump in the car with the collar on because it will immediately go off.

Never used an in ground system, but I am looking at them because the size of our yard.

What was your quote per foot?

A 4-year old femal lab-mix. About 45 lbs of pure, uninhibited ball-chasing, squirrel-and-bird-hating, energy.

I've not used Dog Watch. How big of a yard/ area are you talking about? If you have an acre+ you may want to look at a Wi-Fi set up. I've used them and they work well. A plus is if you move you can take it with you.

Quote was basically:

$699 for the 'system'

$714 for 680ft of 14 gauge wire ($1.05/ft)

$250 for the collar

For a total of $1,663

Only had success with smaller dogs. Labs are so high strung I'm not sure that shock would be enough to deter her from leaving

+1 on this. My buddy has one on his farm and the male Lab will just run through the pain ever since he learned that the collar eventually turns off when you get far enough away.

Either he is too dumb to get it or smart enough to have figured it out.

Wow that's expensive. The Pet Safe Stubborn dog system is 250 with 14 gauge wire. I'm sure the Dog watch is a higher quality, but that's still pretty stiff.

Pet Safe wireless system

This!!! Works great and is cheap ($250). Plus it's portable - you can take it with you to the lake house or wherever when you vacation with the dog.

sorry forgot to respond. Labs learn easy, ive seen the fence work to perfection on them. They learn the flags fast and stay in their zone. Make sure your famle is fixed "is why i asked gender" Other dogs can still get in there... of course you knew this lol

We have one on 2 acres of land and use if for a lab, golden retriever, and a mutt. It works great. We have had it for over a year now and our dogs never leave the yard.

Another vote for the Petsafe Stay and Play wireless system (the version with rechargeable collars). I've got two dogs and one of them used to continuously jump the fence and roam the neighborhood. First zap with the wireless system set to 'high' and she will not get close to leaving the yard now. In fact, when we want to take her for a walk around the neighborhood, we have to pick her up and take her outside the zone without her collar.

I tried the wireless system but did not like the size of the area it had. Its round and there was a lot of my yard that my dog could not use.

I went with the Pet Safe inground system. Bought it on sale at Tractor Supply.

Rented landscape edger from local rental store for $40 for 4 hours. It is like a lawnmower that you pull backwards. Has a small blade that cuts a 1" wide and 2-3" deep trench for the wire. Really easy to install. Hardest part was drilling thru the wall from my garage storage room into the back yard, which was not really that hard. If you have an area that you want the dog to be able to cross you can twist wire there and it will not send correction. Easiest way to twist the wire is to put two ends in a cordless drill and let it do the twisting.

Get one that has a surge suppressor in case lightning strikes around you. Pet safe sells one that protects device from AC spikes and it also protects the connections that the buried wire.
