Does it Save Gas to Keep the Burner on low or to Turn it all the way up?

Boss just asked me if it saves gas to keep the regulator on low simmering or to shut it off then turn it all the way up when needed. What is it?

Keep it as high as possible all the time.

What I generally like to do in these situations is to first and foremost, before taking anything else into consideration (lest you may act irresponsibly) is to make an assessment of just what in the frick OP is talking about.

I know the source of that but a lot of jets are more fuel efficient at higher speed/mach #s
