its not the most complete research that i have seen out of a crime story, but id imagine that anyone even vaguely familiar with the area would find it really interesting. im hoping the last quarter of it is a little tighter though.
I have some family down that way. I considered picking it up, but seems like the guy put out an article a while back. The sheriff (who as I understand it isn't the one who was in office during the time of the slayings) put out a statement almost mocking the article which referenced documents the sheriff claimed didn't even exist.
For that reason,i find it difficult to send money to the guy for what is probably a case of sensationalism with little substance.

Maybe he was making a statement by putting her in plain sight - probably will never know as it did appear the police could not or would not solve the case.
Sean Gillis did this with his victims. He would prop their bodies up with their hands together like they were praying and he always left them in plain view. Most serial killers get to where they want to show off their work.

I don't think I'd ever heard of these, fascinating. I did stop at that Shop Rite in Jennings a lot in those years. Wonder if I was ever standing in line with some truck driver serial killer.

I'm sure that's possible, but it wasn't who killed those 8 women.

I didn't know a book existed. I had read a lot about it back then on a local Topix board dedicated to it. The person who owned the board was threatened and it closed own finally.
Frankie used to visit that board occasionally.
The task force had LSP and FBI on it, as well as the locals. I could never understand how They were so inept, considering that they had no local ties. The woman that was informing the criminals of the task forces every move should have never been on it, considering her connections with the criminals.

They do seem like good people. I don't understand what was really going on in the department during that time, though. The things I read (same stuff everyone else read online) a few years ago made it seem like the department was crooked.

Yeah. And they point out that every witness suggesting this is either a "hustler" or involved in the drug trade or was closer friends with the girls. He interviewed a lot of people in trouble with the law and concluded that the department is crooked. Now, I love conspiracy theories and crooked cop fiction as much as the next guy, but is eyewitness accounts from the frequently incarcerated really worth all that much when it comes to naming a department as a corrupt entity?
I've also heard rumors that the guy cites a lot of sources that don't support his arguments when citing them. I'm tempted to buy the book just to source check it and see if the claims are as disturbing as they appear at face value.

That's some True Detective shite right there.
The creator of TD was heavily influenced by it. He is from the Lake Charles area

I'm about halfway through this book, and I recommend it to anyone with ties to Calcasieu and Jeff Davis Parishes. In addition to the Jeff Davis 8, Brown also looks into the Ellender murders in Carlyss and the KK's Korner murder in Lake Charles.
Very interesting stuff, and a lot of familiar names appear throughout the book. The Books-A-Million on Ryan Street in LC is currently sold out and has a waiting list, but they are expecting more books soon. Brown will be at the store on Oct. 8 for a book signing.
