There's nothing about reincarnation that would preclude being religious. Unless you consider being Hindu "not religious"...????

I don't know anyone who considers Hindus religious. They're not religious people.

I'm not entirely sure how to respond to telling a billion people belonging to a specific *religion* as not being *religious*.

Does "religious" mean something other than "believing in a religion" to you?

I can worship my ingrown toenail and be religious.

Per Webster's: Religion-believing in God

Hindus don't believe in God, they believe in a bunch of stuff but God ain't part of it. Google it.

Have you ever seen grass growing at a cemetery? That's reincarnation at work right there.

I get your point, but with modern coffins and embalming techniques, there's very little chance that anyone buried is providing nutrition to the grass.

Um, NO.

Religious per Websters

quote:

relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity

quote:

of, relating to, or devoted to religious beliefs or observances

quote:

believing in a god or a group of gods and following the rules of a religion

Hindus believe in a pantheon of gods, including Krishna (the blue one with the flute), Kali (the 6 armed goddess), Ganesha (the one with the elephant head).

Being religious isn't a "God's only club".

Anyway, the major religions that believe in some form of reincarnation are:
Hinduism
Jainism
Bhuddism
Sikhism

So, if you know a Hindu or a Bhuddist, you know someone who at least belongs to a following that believes in reincarnation.

FIFY

Your dead ancestors who lacked the fancy modern caskets & embalming is what is what provides the nutrition.

I just hope I'm not reincarnation as my chair cushion. That would be wrong.

Just to clarify for anyone confused by this poster's misinformation.

Dude, you do realize that there are major world religions that believe in it, therefore you CAN be quite "religious" and believe in it.

Considering you stated it involves "Believing in God", you pretty much just shot down your first argument trying to make this one.

I not only believe in it, I know it to be true. Study the right information and meet the right people and you will come to the same conclusion.

It's illogical because population increases. There would have to be a constant number of things to inhabit for reincarnation to be reasonable.

Reincarnation is retarded.

In all seriousness.
This is a pretty dumb argument. There's a really cool short story called "The Egg", it's about a page and a half. But it explains this pretty well.

Long story short, if you can be placed into another life then there's nothing to say that life has to be in the future so you could actually be reincarnated into a past lifetime or even a concurrent one. Using restraints like time and causality to debunk something like reincarnation is a pretty silly and fruitless exercise.

So, you believe in parallel existence because the only way to explain a finite number of souls given the population increases and decreases over time. The Egg must science fiction.

I think it's personally ridiculous to believe in this given there's absolutely no evidence for the existence of parallel universes.
