Does anyone have experience with the private social network nextdoor?

I just got a postcard from nextdoor.com. It seems like a good idea in theory but this is the first I've heard of this site. Anybody have any experience with it?

From the site
quote:

Nextdoor allows communities to easily create private websites to facilitate communication among neighbors and build stronger neighborhoods. Nextdoor was created based on the idea that the neighborhood is one of the most important and useful communities in a person's life. Nextdoor's mission is to use technology to help neighbors build stronger and safer neighborhoods.

It's the Ashley Madison of the neighborhood.

There was a thread last week on it. I am on it for my town and it's pretty much a bitch fest for people who must not work as often as they post. Some constructive stuff but mostly bitching

It's a great way to meet neighbors and give a heads up on suspicious activity. Or sell anything in the classified section

While there is some complaining, it has come in handy regarding lost pets, reporting crime and some use it to sell things. We have over 200 residents who use it and we like it.

You could also walk over and introduce yourself or God forbid even have neighbors over for actual interaction.

It's pretty cool for tips and stuff about the neighborhood, but some people really do have way too much free time to snoop. Lots of gossipy moms with too much time on their hands.

I've been on it since around xmas time. Lots of socially awkward people post on it. There was 1 lady a few weeks ago who posted a novel worth of bitching about some house who had an invisible fence for their dog in the front yard. Apparently the dog nearly gave her a legit heart attack.

It's a legit site that is widely used if that's what you're asking.

It's as useful as its users make it.

One of our neighbors went on a huge rant about the traffic cop in front of Blue Bayou. The cop was causing him a five minute delay getting home. (Manchac Commons/ Santa Maria)

quote:

Now this is an urgent neighborhood post in my opinion. What can we do as a community that lives off of Old Perkins about this Blue Bayou Water Park/police stopping and obstructing traffic flow for these people who should not be turning left anyways coming out of the park!? Suggestions on how to start a petition and let them know that it's not okay for normal hard working people who just want to get home to there family to go through this inconvenience. Thank you!

quote:

WHERE do I sign?! We have to allow an additional 10 minutes (or more) to our commute in the late afternoon hours when we go somewhere. This is the first year they've done this and it's a mess.

quote:

There needs to be an exit access from the back side of the lot directly to the interstate. Good luck with that though, we've been trying to get a loop around Baton Rouge for over 15 years!...So, as I said before, I'm not optimistic.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where all the pictures of the apartment tenants were posted.

I'm part of it as are many in our neighborhood.

It's more like Craigslist but you can also add warnings (such as bogus IRS threat calls).
