(CNN)Doctors caring for released North Korea detainee Otto Warmbier said he has not spoken or moved on his own since he arrived in the United States on Tuesday.
They described his condition as "unresponsive wakefulness," also known as persistent vegetative state.
The 22-year-old has suffered extensive loss of brain tissue in all regions of the brain, doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said in a news conference Thursday. He opens his eyes and blinks spontaneously but shows no signs of understanding language or responding to verbal commands, said Dr. Daniel Kanter, professor of neurology and director of the Neurocritical Care Program.

Yeah, that's what happens when they improperly lobotomize you.

If any other sovereign nation detained, beat, and caused severe brain damage to our citizen, what would happen?
Posted on 6/15/17 at 6:22 pm to SlowFlowPro
Has there been anything said as to what caused it? As in blunt trauma, etc?

they claim it was botulism
but more likely either drugging/drowning that cut off air flow to his brain

IF he was travelling to France and this happened, I'd be pissed. He went to NK, so I don't really GAF.

Actually they said just the opposite
One of the drs in the press conference today said there was no evidence of botulism

I believe 3 Americans are currently in NK prisons/labor camps.

Heard 3 others on the news.

To a point I understand this. But even Americans in Iran don't get treated like this.

Had must have had a brain injury before he went to NK. Why the hell would he want to go to NK?
Posted on 6/15/17 at 6:28 pm to Phat Phil
He spoke his first words after confirming his brain injury today, "Ed O was a great hire."

I never said they deserved it. I'm simply saying that it's a result of their own stupidity and I'll never put a service member's life on the line for that blatant stupidity.

Fred Warmbier appeared critical of the Obama administration's handling of Otto's detention, saying the family heeded the US government's initial advice to take a low profile "without result."
What does it take to get an American released from North Korea? What does it take to get an American released from North Korea? They kept quiet "on the false premise that (North Korea) would treat Otto fairly and let him go," he said.
If true, ouch.

They said there was no sign of recent or healed skeletal injuries. They also called bullshite on botulism. No sign of that. They said respiratory arrest is unusual in a young healthy person and usually caused by some kind of trauma. The only people who know are in NK and they arent telling.
The docs were clearly briefed not to say too much. They may know or suspect something but are keeping it on the down low.
Oddly enough they seemed to take decent care of him afterward. His skin was in good condition which is a tell for whether a bedridden person is being well cared for.

So what do you think they did to him?
Posted on 6/15/17 at 6:36 pm to tgrbaitn08
No telling. Something that didnt leave permanent marks. Water torture, a drug experiment that went wrong. Maybe he was suicidal and tried to hang himself and they found him before he finished the job.

I think driving through North BR is dumb
Traveling to North Korea makes you a Darwin award candidate
