I'm going to get an oil change and they always ask if I want regular or synthetic. I usually get synthetic but they say it's not necessary

I looked on an escalade forum and they said the same. I'm thinking about getting regular because synthetic is about $80 and I'm a poor college student

Is this a big mistake?

Synthetic. Won't break down as fast if the vehicle sits I believe.

If you have been using Syn, then yes it is.

Stick with what you have been using.

Plus, the syn is probably good for another 3k or so if you just change the filter.

Go by whatever GM recommends. Full synthetic will last 10,000 miles as well.

Synthetic gets you more miles before next change 5000-8000 vs 3000-5000 depending on driving. Worth it imo.

Look at the owner's manual.

The main reason to go synthetic is that it lasts longer and you don't have to change oil as often. You can easily go 10-12k miles on synthetic without an oil change. So if you do that it's cheaper and a time saver.
