No, because I don't usually have issues staying active in the winter. At least I haven't the last several years.

But I do notice I'm noticeably happier on sunnier days vs overcast/rainy days. Always have been.

This winter I'm likely struggling cause I'm battling stress at work, stress with school, and stress from not being able to conceive at the moment. I don't have as much free time as I used to devote to working out or even just get outside and do the outdoor activities that bring me joy. I really do need to find a way of achieving more balance and get more exercise though cause I feel myself slipping deeper and deeper into a funk/depression. Which is causing me to have more of a "frick it" attitude towards trying to eat right. Being placed on antidepressants aren't really an option for me at the moment.

Football season is the worst time for weight loss for me - mainly because my couch is comfy, my tv is large, football is entertaining, and my fridge keeps the beer really cold.

Football season kills me too. Beer and football all day.

I remember thinking SAD sounded ridiculous, but I had never experienced a real winter before. Two winters in the one of the world's coldest countries and I get it a little more. The really short days actually bother me more than the extreme cold. It can put you in a funk if you aren't careful.

I find that people that have the commitment to work out early morning tend to stick with it more than afternoon crew. I know cause I do both

I never understand how people gain weight in the winter. If anything I'm usually in exceptional shape by the end of the winter. The summer when I'm constantly drinking outdoors and grilling and being overly social is when I gain it.

In the winter I don't do nearly as much constant social drinking so I'm usually in tip top shape by the time spring shows up, and then I basically just try to maintain until football season ends (all day drinking fests Saturday and Sunday are the worst for a figure).

I also LOL at all the southern folk talking about being depressed during the winter and talking about darkness. It's like 70 every day this winter in Houston. O maybe it gets to 40 here and there, so damn what. No reason to stop being in shape. That's an awful excuse.

Yeah I know what you mean. On my days off if I just make myself workout first thing...I stick to it more and then I have the rest of the day to do whatever.

When I'm working a bunch of nights in a row I would try to make myself work out at the gym or go hiking as soon as I woke up in the afternoon before I went to work that night. So that's like my "morning". Lately that just isn't happening cause I'm always just so tired now so I sleep longer during the day or I have to try and fit schoolwork in before I go back to work. I just need to find something that work for me right now. Maybe just focus on doing some sort of exercise at home for 30 minutes instead of my usual hour or so at the gym.

Something needs to change though, and I only have myself to blame for it. My health and mental well being are seriously being affected by it right now.

Why not stop on the way home from work in the morning? Or on the way to work?

Cause I'm fighting just staying awake long enough to drive home, no way I can workout after work(I've tried before and I was too sleepy to have an effective workout). I get home and go to bed as soon as possible when I get home.

Working 12s you really don't have much time in between shifts when you are working back to back. If I get up and go to the gym I'm giving up sleep and only sleeping 6 hours max to get up at 2:30-3 or so and have enough time to work out, shower, get ready for work and eat. I have to be out the door for work at 6pm.

ETA: I think I need to refocus and try to workout more on my days off now.

No, that sounds like an excuse. The underlying cause is a lack of motivation, which is fine. But don't blame gaining weight on it being too cold or too dark, that is a cop out.

You sound dumb. Congrats?

Well you only work 3 nights a week and don't have kids so you should be able to work in 6-7 workouts a week no problem

I also am in school. In an accelerated online program that is very time consuming. This class I'm in now...I've basically spending all my days off doing schoolwork(assigned readings, twice weekly essays I have to write, papers due almost every week, group projects, powerpoints, etc).

I get what you are saying though. I'm just personally struggling right now. I just have to suck it up and figure out a balance. The whole baby trying thing and it not happening is adding a tremendous amount of stress on my mind as well. I want to give 100% to all these factors in my life but I'm obviously failing.

Same here. Life is a sin wave. Ying and yang, etc.

You have to strike a balance. Most mentally healthy people aren't OCD enough or self-absorbed enough to be calorie conscious 365 days a year. Gaining that winter weight gives me motivation to get back on the saddle, and because I've given myself some liberty in the fall I do not burn out on being health conscious.

By May I'll be in peak condition which for me is 12-15% body fat at 190 pounds. Six pack visible. By August I'm craving my sons birthday cake. September starts beer drinking season.

It works for me. As I get older (32 now) I will have to adjust to maintain my standards, but I will keep my workout calendar pretty much the same.
