Do you or anyone you know drive below the speed limit on purpose?

These people are alien to me. I got behind one of these creatures today and they were going below 20mph in a 25 and below 30 in a 35.

My theory of these people:
I think many of these people don't have anything to do. They don't have jobs or are retired and aren't in any real hurry to get anywhere.
Or maybe they are incredibly thrifty and are trying to save gas and be hyper-safe.

I also think some have never really had jobs and have no understanding of why some people are actually in a hurry to get somewhere. As if it is a life they have never known. I think people like me are just as foreign to them as they are to me.

If you thought about this in the context of a disease, there are absolutely different stages of it.

Like an example of an early stage of the affliction would be:
1. Someone who waits 3 or more seconds (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi) after a traffic light has turned green before they actually start to move. And after finally moving, they go very slow and only a handful of people make it through the redlight when twice as many cars should have! I encountered a few of these today too.

I've noticed an amazing attribute of most of these people. Most of them could care less if they are holding you up, in your way, in your lane or generally slowly you down at all. At times, they'll actually go slower just to piss you off, if they think you are driving to close to them.

Truth is I'm braking to go this slow and it's difficult to consistently keep this ridiculous rate of slow speed.

They won't speed up! They're almost offended that someone has the nerve to need to go faster than them. It's remarkable!

I'm not talking about everyone needing to drive like a lunatic. I'm talking about people driving in a way that suggests they have a relatively meaningful need to get somewhere in a reasonable amount of time vs. driving as if time doesn't exist and without any concern for another human being who might need to get somewhere and have no interest for wasting time in the process of getting there.

In a perfect world, these people could be separated from the general population and live in Slowville where nothing ever happens and everyone can exist without a schedule because nothing is on the schedule.

Besides the OT hard-asses who will respond that they can drive as slow as they damn well please...are there any other responses besides being uber-safe and uber-thrifty?

If I get some jerk riding my bumper, I'll slow down to 1 mph below the speed limit. I'll also intentionally go through any standing water on the road to dirty up their windshield. Other than that, I don't.

Sometimes I will purposely speed up so people won't pass me. Also I will drive slow in the left lane just to annoy people in jacked up trucks

my mom sets her cruise at 54 in a 55, 69 in a 70, etc.

Never let her drive if I'm in the car.

If you're in that much of a hurry to get to work maybe you should start leaving the house earlier.

I will if the road is slick.

But I do know someone who drives 10-15 under regardless of conditions. The reason why is that she's terrified of driving. I tried explaining to her that she's more likely to cause a wreck by going that slow but to no avail.

The only time I drive slower is if someone rides my tail in a 20. I'll go around 23-25 usually but I got my lone speeding ticket in a 20 so I don't race through them anymore. However I HAAAAAAAATE when people ride my fricking tail like I'm choosing to go 20 and it's not the speed limit. When they do that, I'll drop to 15 and just turn my music up.

ALL THE FRIKKING TIME in Tulsa, it's 45 mph for the three miles from work to home and most of the time I never get past 40 mph and it's a four lane road!!!!

We all know they should be going 120mph, not 20mph

I used to hate it when my grandma would drive us to school. She was the same way. The last time she drove us, she got over on the shoulder of the road (she kept driving on the shoulder) hoping people would go around us. That was the end of her driving us to school.

I did it yesterday. Was running along at about 55 in a 55mph zone. Some young woman comes flying up behind and follows about 15' off my bumper. I slowed down to about 30.

The road was hilly and curvy so she couldn't get around me. frick that tailgating bitch and her momma.

I'll drive 5 over on highways and interstates. 65 in 60. 75 in 70 etc.

But, on Perkins Road, I'm hovering 10-15 over b/c those lights suck donkey dicks. Thanks to Kip for screwing us out of having all those lights synced by tacking on his pet project to the tax vote.

It's defensive driving. Some people do that to keep maniacs like you that speed & probably run red lights from T-boning them.
