for example, contrary to public opinion, i'm a very nice/altruistic/giving person. but at the same time, i'm very, very competitive. this creates a conflict b/c my nice/giving demeanor is basically the worst way to compete in the competition of life. b/c of this i lose a lot, and get mad/sad about it
I'm pretty similar in that regard. But I don't find it a hinderance to competition. Of course, if/when the competition gets nasty I stop being nice pretty quick. And by "stop being nice" I mean slash tires.
Other than that, I've always been torn between rural and city life, e.g., being happy in the dead middle of the swamp/woods or in a urban setting. The city life won out for many years when I was younger, but as I've gotten older and settled down I lean more toward the rural.
