This. I'm on the west coast and my family is in La. I hate fighting traffic to get to the airport, the cluster that is the airport, and then the same thing on the other end. And it's always the guilt trip of "you don't come home enough, when are you coming back". But, I will say, it's a cake walk compared to when I lived in Boston. I never knew what the weather was going to be like up there over the holidays and used that as my excuse
my opinion is if they want to see me so bad, they can come here. they dont like that answer though, b.c well they would then have to travel over the holidays. And they think its a pain.
I had that exact conversation with my father this year.
"buddha, come home for xmas"
"dad, you know, I hate flying for 4 hrs then driving for another 3. And tickets are expensive"
"buddha, we haven't seen you since may. We miss you."
"Why don't you come visit then?"
"Well, its always such a pain to fly over xmas"
