Do you consider the tragic 2016 Baton Rouge shooting as an act of terrorism?

It involves a radical using violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aim. It wasn't some nut job that went crazy. It happened where police officers often congregate during a time of social unrest in Baton Rouge and in the US. His motivations were spelled out pretty clearly, and he traveled a long way to do it.

Do you consider that terrorism? How would you prevent that in the future if things heat up again with BLM?

“Unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.” (28 CFR § 0.85)

By definition, yes. He was acting according to his own social objectives in response to the Sterling shooting.

ETA: As tke noted, domestic terrorism. He acted as a lone wolf (homegrown violent extremist).

I think so, from what little I know.

That said, if he had personal beef with police and wanted to take revenge on a group of officers, I'd say no, not terrorism.

Still a tragedy and act of total cowardice, but not terrorism if motivated only or most predominately by personal animus.

I think BRPD and LSP raided a house where people were collecting weapons last year during the protests.

They may have prevented another terrorist attack on Baton Rouge, New Orleans, or any random place.

Yep. Most people get too caught up thinking terrorism is always Abu from X middle east country. Both BR and Dallas are textbook examples of domestic terrorism.

Yes. Sadly it is difficult to prevent things like this. Luckily some badass BRPD officer put a lead present in his dome from a hundred yards away before he could do any more damage.

ETA: Thanks bojangles. Couldn't remember specifically.

No? Hes referring to the attacks on BRPD.

Those attacks were 100% terrorism.

Not to sound petty or anything, but it was actually a SWAT guy from BRPD.

It's certainly a concern since the findings of the investigation in the Sterling case will be released soon. Not everyone that comes to Baton Rouge (or any other protests that may erupt) will be there with non-violent intentions.

Workplace violence according to the administration in power at that time.

To be clear, the OP is about the attack at Hammond Aire on July 17.

He was behind a pillar or sign from the car wash there right? Or was he behind his vehicle on Airline?

It was a very good shot either way. The terrorist was all the way behind the fitness building at the time.

It's the very definition of domestic terrorism. OKC happened because of Waco, terrorism. All terrorism is done with an agendy, or reason
