Do they DNA swab all prisoners?

Even prisoners who have been incarceraed pre-DNA technology years?
Or would that just be far too expensive?
Watching some Jon Benet Ramsey show and it had me thinking about it. They found unknown DNA on her groin area.

In some jurisdictions they do all felony arrests. In some places all persons convicted and in some places only with a warrant or consent. Just depends.

Not sure about state prisoners but federal prisoners get swapped when arrested.

But even violent felons, do they swab guys convicted before DNA was a thing that are still incarcerated?
Or DNA swab violent felons that are now free?

They DNA swabbed me back in 2010 when I was on felony probation.

That was for the paternity test

Yes, anyone arrested for a felony is swabbed. And usually before someone is released after doing a long sentence they are checked to make sure they have been swabbed and will be swabbed at their release.

They swab people that are charged with felonies. I never got swabbed for anything else

I hear they're swabbing volunteers at the malls to build a dna database for research. All volunteers will get a $5 Amazon gift card in the mail. My suggestion is to hold out for two $5 gift cards.

How far did they stick that swab in your prison purse?

They swab your mouth. The a-hole cop that did mine jammed the q-tip to the back of my throat and made me gag

Sounds like he was giving you a sample of his DNA.

All federal cases which are felonies are mandated to be tested. Thus included old cases which predates the law.
I worked in the system during the time where it started. It was a nightmare.
The FBI has a backlog of DNA samples going back for years. It's correlated with their forger print code. I once had an inmate who didn't have fingerprints due to scarring. They were never able to process his DNA.
