Do people get realty agents just to tour houses for fun with no intent to buy?

I don't, but I've heard of others doing this.

Seems like a waste of time.

It's a good idea if you are planning to build.

Get ideas, see what you like, what you don't like, and incorporate that knowledge into your house plans.

You can also see color schemes, room layouts, etc. better than you could from pictures/magazines.

Sometimes the houses you are curious about just don't hold open houses (for whatever reason).

Don't most require you to be prequalified with a bank for at least the purchase price of the house for a showing?

My wife wouldn't do that but she hits up open houses all the time. Most realtors in town know and and just say hello and let her walk around the house without wasting their time

Not really. It's a dickhead thing to do to agents that work on commission and their time is money just like everyone else's.

Real estate agents are some of the biggest pieces of shite on earth.

I've never met one that isn't a massive scumbag

Even if the agent is an arse, it's still a dick thing to waste their time with no intent to purchase.

Just go to the open houses and enjoy the hors d'oeuvres. You don't need an agent for that.

Shouldn't matter the intent to the agent if it is someone who can afford to buy/move. There must be at least a little interest if they are looking, its up to a good agent to build that interest and get them to buy.

No when I look at a home I do have interest to buy. I flip homes and rent homes on the side as a hobby. I look more for outdated or homes that need work which most people will not touch.

My 1st cousin is a realtor with Meybohm Fine Home Division (homes priced over a certain ridiculous amount of money) and it got so bad with them that, even within the regular division of Meybohm, they require precertification and proof of how much you are preapproved for before they will even discuss what listings they have available.

They may say there is no intent to buy, but there always is. The right sales pitch can get anyone to buy something.

A guy that worked for my dad had no friends or family in town. He had some poor re agent drive his arse around town on weekends for entertainment. He had no intention of buying and when he quit and moved the agent cried about the situation. I bet she doesn't do that again.

I bought my home 18 months ago. If you really think that the "right sales pitch" could get me to buy another house, you're dumb as a box of rocks.
