Nobody in my family has ever been divorced, gone to jail, and we all get along really well. I've always considered my family to be very un-disfunctional.

Absolutely, the P family couldn't be more perfect. And once a couple of the shittier members kill off, we'll be even more perfect.

Not even close. Looking back on everything as an adult, I'll do better for my kids.

TigerHam would attest our family is far from perfect.

Grandparents (both sides) and Parents and In-Laws never divorced.
The Lottery Winner (aka Mrs. Füt) and I have been one and onlys for each other.
My sibs and her sibs with their respective spouses have never divorced.

No one fights and the next generation seem to have their heads screwed on straight.

We are all (at least) slightly above-average.

I had a bit of an outlaw youth, a more perfect family would have likely cut ties with me long ago. But my flawed family is about as close to perfect as I want and probably closer than I deserve.

Whenever I think my family is dysfunctional, I read a few OT threads and count my blessings.

no such a thing.... all families have their secrets behind closed doors... all of 'em

This. It is an illusion that I've grown privy the older I get. I used to get all bent out of shape comparing my family to other families. Some of the most "perfect" families out there are just real good at hiding.

I came from polar opposite etended families. Mother's family was white trash. Loved my grandparents and they were nice people, but never graduated high school. My grandpa was a farmer and my grandma was a housewife. My mother's siblings can be described as an embarrassment in some ways.

On the other hand, my dad came from a family that valued education. Both grandparents graduated college, etc. Pretty much all his brothers and sister are successful, and upper middle class. I was always closer with that side the family. I always thought they were a lot better and kind of the perfect family. They are definitely better than the white trash side, but as I grow older, I see the disfunction. It's nothing awful, but just when you list out the family secrets, you realize everyone is human. I dont think the "perfect" family exists.

To be a "perfect" family you must have parents that remained married, have at least above average intelligence, good jobs/education, average attractiveness, very little fighting outside of typical family bickering, etc. You get the idea.

Family fits all of these except parents still being married. Think the divorce made our family more perfect.

Three kids with masters degrees all under the age of 27 making a combined ~$200k, all graduated with above 3.8 GPAs for all degrees. And I personally think I'm pretty sexy so again:

ETA: In all seriousness though, every family has their flaws and there is no perfect family. We all ended up alright and I think that's all you can ask for.
