Disposal of old big screen TV

What's the best way to get rid of an old big screen tv? Don't think anyone would want to buy it b/c it's pretty old. I've heard salvation army may come pick it up as a donation but I can't find any info online.

Put an add on craigslist.com offering to give it away to someone that will pick it up.

Best Buy recycles TVs

They charge you $10 to recycle it, but they give you a $10 gift card to Best Buy in exchange.

There are, though, many outlets for consumers to recycle, donate or trade-in goods. The Environmental Protection Agency has a list, and the electronics association provides links with a ZIP code search feature to find corporate recycling programs and programs for donating used goods to charitable organizations. Earth911 offers an iPhone app.

Best Buy has been recycling most consumer electronics in its stores for two years. Consumers can drop off, at no charge, smaller items like CDs/DVDs, rechargeable batteries and cellphones at kiosks at the entrance of its stores.

Best Buy will also take up to two larger items a day at customer service, including televisions and monitors up to 32 inches, computer C.P.U.’s, VCRs/DVD players, phones, remotes and keyboards. The company charges a $10 recycling fee for items with screens, but gives customers a $10 store gift card immediately.

Slightly used items can be traded in for a gift card. Certain big TVs and appliances can be hauled away for a fee. The removal is free if the customer buys a newer appliance from Best Buy to replace the old one.

For its fiscal year ending March 1, Best Buy anticipates recycling 80 million pounds of goods, up from 70 million pounds the previous year, said Kelly Groehler, a spokeswoman. About 75 to 80 percent of that is computers and monitors.

I would do this, but I don't have a truck to take it up to best buy. I'm going to look into the places that you mentioned that will accept as donations. Do you know if these places will come pick it up from your house if it's a donation? TIA

leave out with the trash and Mexicans will come get it in (if you live in Houston). I've had a couch disappear in 15 minutes. And old TV in an hour. Hell, just the other morning I was leaving some work and caught Jose and Juan scooping up some rotted chairs I had out with the trash.

I know this would work, but I'm worried Jose and Juan might realize this means I got a new tv and check it out too.

Put it on the curb

I have thought about rolling it across the street to the neighbor's curb that way the person who took it wouldn't know it was from my house. I would feel like a dick tho if their house got robbed or something.
