HD HIGH DEF.

Before you say it, I tried the Tech Board and that place is a barren wasteland with one guy who responded and showed a standard def version before whipping out the "Let me Google that for you..." option. Waste of time.

So I beseech the mighty power of the OT for an answer.

We need an AUTO SETUP (to keep the drunk fighting to a minimum) option that will receive DirecTV HIGH DEFINITION signal. I have called DirecTV (they are bigger morons than the Tech Board) and tried every Google term I can think of to no avail.

Anyone got a suggestion? Am I looking for a unicorn here?

Just get a dish. We run a dish and three boxes at our tailgate and it doesn't take long to set up.

For auto setup, you'd probably need an RV dome.

ETA The RV dome is auto locating which is what I assume you're looking for. But let me reiterate that using a dish is not hard at all.

Did you even read the OP or are you just trolling the hell out of me right now?

And if this is a troll, then you should immediately go to my Tech Board thread and write "OT Lounge".

I'm by no means an expert but why cant't you just mount a dish on a 2x4 stuck in a bucket of cement?

I know the auto dish I have for my RV is only standard definition. You could possibly look into the roof mount units for motor homes but they will be $1200 +. I only takes about 10-15 minutes to set up a manual dish after you get the hang or it and that is about the only cheap way I can think of to have HD direct tv at a tailgate. The problem is that you need multiple LNB dish to pick up the 110 deg satellite that the HD programing comes in on.

Those RV domes are your only automatic option and I don't think they are cheap at all

a tri pod is much easier.

This is the set up you need

Very easy installation, turn the meter on a little bit where it is buzzing then slowly turn the dick to the correct axis/Azimuth and the metter will go down or up along with the buzzing noise. As it goes up and gets louder its getting more in tune. Good luck

Because it was a major pain in the arse last year and I want to avoid that this go around. We have fought the manual setup for so long that if there is an auto option I want it.

Auto locating + portable = $$$$$$$$$$$$

Auto locating + portable + HD = not happening unless its on an RV

I guess you just dont know what you are doing, which is fine. Setting a dish up is really easy, especially if you tailgate in the same spot every game.

Even if you dont it's still really easy.

Again you either have a shitty satellite stand or just dont know what you are doing.

Why do you need an Auto setup? Just get a regular dish, practice your setup at home a few times, and then do it out at the tailgate. It's not that hard if you have something to mount it on, and know where to point it. Hell, one time we didn't have a compass or what we used to normally mount it on, so I grabbed a C-clamp, spun around until picture showed up on the TV, and clamped it to a table. Took like 5 minutes.

ETA: Go here, type in 70820, and get the Azimuth and elevation you need. LINK

Man you suck at googling

With built-in DVB technology for positive satellite identification, the In-Motion-HD systems offer a simple, one-touch operation with fool-proof satellite identification.
With a smart search of the southern sky, satellite acquisition is fast. When you want to watch TV while underway, simply press a button to track the satellite.

Multi-Satellite Service Compatible; DISH 500, DIRECTV Plus and DISH Network HD are easily accessible. The King-Dome automatically switches satellites by simply selecting the desired channel with your satellite receiver remote control.

With an optional High-Definition converter (see Accessories), the new King-Dome systems even provide access to national DIRECTV HD channels broadcast from the 101, 110 and 119 satellites.

Have fun spending $900 on something that shouldn't cost more than $100. Once you have a normal tailgate spot, you can usually get a dish working in 5-10 minutes.

More options for spending an ungodly amount of money:

Here is a link to find dealers for TracVision dishes. You know, the flat ones you see on top of the soccer mom Escalades? A quick search on eBay has them starting at $4k.

I paid $650 for my standard def auto set up. It is the winegard carry out. Just went to their website and none of the auto setups are direct tv HD. Most are DISH HD though
