gets dragged kicking & screaming to provide ground support
Not so sure what you mean here, but I have to respectfully disagree. The Air Force has ground troops, who will gladly provide support. They have Security Forces, who provide base security, munition security, etc. Security Force Ravens, who provide security for aircraft and crew in Hostile environments outside of secure bases.
Tactical Patrol units, also known as Tac-P. Tac-p are ground commanders best friends. They advise
ground commanders of what air support is available and call in for the support and guide pilots into the correct areas. They are well trained and are embedded with many other forces.
Air Force Pararescue Also know as PJ's and they are not well known but they are badass. In a quick nutshell they are called in to rescue downed pilots and any other distressed unit.
Lastly, Combat controllers. These teams are also highly trained and provide the basic same services Tac-p's do except they are embedded with Navy Seal teams and other Special forces units.
I served as Security Force Raven and Tac-P. I have respect for all branches and think it is amazing how well trained our forces are.
