Why would you chapperone 18 year olds? They aren't going to magically mature over the summer before you drop them off at college.

Some parents don't pay to send their kids off the college for the very same reason. Kid wants to party, kid can do it on their own dime.

Personally I would rather my kid enjoy college how they want to regardless of their lifestyle choices - as long as they maintain a decent gpa. I would do as much as I could for them to avoid a huge pile of debt even if that means funding some booze and grass indulgence.

Doesn't surprise me a bit that the under 30 crowd here had parental chaperones on their senior trip.

You sir are completely correct. I have two kids and they are mostly who they were created to be. I am just here to shepherd the flock.

We went on a cruise to the Bahamas. Our chaperones were two football coaches and our female athletic trainer who was dating one of the football coaches. One of them frickers still owes me a case of beer.

Sounds like just an excuse for moms to get away to party
And bang some HS boys; they can't let the teachers have all the fun

It really depends on the kid for me. If mine is responsible and plans on getting a decent degree, I would help her. If she is a frick up and plans to get a degree in underwater basket weaving, screw that, she can go on her own dime.
Too many dumbass parents send their shitty kids to college just to fail out because they are not ready to deal with it.

When I was in jr. high and then high school, I lusted after some of the good looking teachers.
Now I go to a teacher conference at my daughters' high school and lust after the teachers...
My life is a merry-go-round.

Not the worse idea in the world but depending on where you are going. Staying at a different but proximate location. Out of the country then I think it a solid idea but that may be skewed due to being just below Natalie Holloway in school and having a family member on that trip to Aruba.

No parents on our trip to Panama City in 1996. Of course I had to pay for my own trip, my parents didn't care if I went on one or not.
Will have to face it with my kids in about 6 years. Only case I could see me or my wife going would be an out of the country trip. I'm not paying for them to go out of the country though. They would have to pay their own way.

It becomes more apparent everyfrickingyear that that I was born too soon; all of this really good HS shite happened way after I graduated

I think it is a lot harder for kids to get hotel rooms and such.
In 92 it was all students in Panama city
My son graduated in 2015 wanted to get a cabin in gatlinburg TN you had to be 25 to rent it and that person had to be present to get the keys or a person over 25
So my wife and I went with them. We let them do whatever and we got them alcohol and cooked for them and stay out of the way. They loved us being there bc of that

Yep. In case we had to bail my reprobate out of Panama City central lockup.
That's what happened to me in 1972. Totally stupid shite (but my mom wasn't there to bail me out, my friends did). I packed my shite up, went home and got a job so I could pay them back. Damn I was an idiot then. (I've never told my boys that story, they are great at thinking they get a pass if the old man did stupid stuff when he was a kid.)

Last summer we were on a cruise out of Port Canaveral and met a huge group on their senior trip with about 6 of their moms. The fricking hottest mom in the group was all over one of the dudes she called "Rico suave" and the best part was that her son was on the cruise too but he stayed in his cabin the whole time talking to his gf who was back home.
Two summers ago we were on a cruise out of Port Canaveral and met a group of girls on their senior trip with some of their moms and dads with them. Well, the second to last night, two of the girls hooked up with two of the dads and when word got out the next day, which was the last night, all hell broke loose in their entire group bc both dads had daughters who were in the group.
Most of the girls now go to FAU.
