I had to have it with my nephew. I just asked him what he knew. Corrected what was wrong. Told him to be responsible and what that meant. Told him not to be in a hurry.

It's really not hard.

I did an extensive explanation with each of my kids.

I allowed for questions several times during and evidently I did such a good job, they had none.

Full disclosure: they were each asleep when I gave them the talk.

Some of my better parenting moments, not bragging.

Having the talk with my 10 year old as soon as school is out.. I'm pretty sure he has some idea but not the real scoop.. I'll cover basics and anatomy and let him figure out the details through the years.

ETA.. My parents never had the talk with me but with the Internet.. I believe you need to discuss it these days

I think the best way to handle it is to get an age-appropriate book and let them read it for themselves.

My parents didn't say much to me but they did get a book with cartoon characters fricking for my little sister.

Absolutely...i am after all their "parent".....it is my job to prepare them to be functional, responsible adults and arm them with all the tools to give them the best chance to prosper in life.
