Driving this coming Saturday. Back-ups I saw headed west 2 days ago make me consider Google's recommendation to go I-20 (12 hrs).

Any foolproof detours around AL/MS/LA bridge construction?

I-20..? That's kind of going out of the way huh..?

Take highway 90, exiting at I-49 in Mississippi, to Slidell 190, Jump back on I-10East to I-12West to Baton Rouge...

I'd leave at 10pm. Seriously. I'm probably doing the same trip next month and I'm leaving at 10pm.

If you're driving during the day at all, take the hazardous materials detour around Mobile tunnel, get off of I-10 around Diamondhead and hit 90. Take 90 all the way through south LA and hit I-10 back in Lafayette. This way you avoid the dreaded tunnel, the I-10/I-12/I-59 clusterf*ck and the basin bridge lane closures.

I just came back from Gulf Shores yesterday. 7 and a half hours to Lafayette. Took us 4 and a half going there at night. Detours 10 miles back from construction at LA border and I-10 was backed up from Grosse Tete to the bridge in BR supposedly, so we took 190. Drive at night.

coworker of mine just got back from Destin. Left at 4am and was back in New Iberia before 10am. Seems like nighttime/early morning drive is the best option.
