Demographics of Cubans

One of my close friends visited Cuba about 10 years ago. I recall him saying it was an international hub before it got closed off and people from around the world settled there. Are there any other situations when a melting pot of people are suddenly not allowed to leave for multiple generations?
The average ancestry is 72% Europeans, 20% African, and 8% Native American. Also 1% Chinese, which makes me curious how they compare to Chinese in the U.S. (i.e. same culture of achievement?).
Of course, a large Spanish ancestry and also French, Portuguese, Italians, Germans, & Russians. Also interesting that Native Americans are about 10x more prevalent in Cuba than the U.S.
How much will it change 50 years from now? Will it be a country led by wealthy Americans and a lower class of natives? Or will it slowly rise from within without that much outside help? What sort of education does the average European Cuban have today?

I visited Cuba about 15 years ago and IMO its people are similar, in ethnicity, to other Caribbean islands colonized by the Spanish. Mostly Hispanic with a large minority of blacks. The native Americans are indigenous Indians who were there before the Spanish arrived, much like Mexico. Through years of interbreeding, the population is becoming more homogenized with most people classifying as either dark Spanish or light Spanish.
I think that the Cuba of the future won't be much different than it is now as far as economics are concerned.
As far as education is concerned, Cuba has mandatory 11 year primary education for all citizens. Those students determined by the authorities to be candidates for higher education are then enrolled in college in whatever fields are chosen for them.

That European number is mostly Mestizos (mixed Native and European).

The white man likes to rule everything. Ask the Polynesians of the Hawaiian archipelago.

Thanks, I didn't know until a couple of months ago that Jeff Lunhow (sp? - Astros GM) is Cuban and moved to the US at a young age. He looks and sounds a little more European than the more common Spanish ancestry that you mention.
