Delta had their yearly convention in Montoe for years and years. Most everybody in charge kept after Biedenharn to move the convention to a bigger city. His ending line of his speech at the annual meeting always was "As 51% owner of Delta Airlines I want to be the first to welcome you back to Monroe for next years meetings"

dude was a boss

Delta held their board meetings at the Central Bank location in downtown Monroe. The table in the board meeting room was shaped like a huge wing off a plane.

Huff Daland Dusters was founded in macon Ga. It did not become Delta until 1928 while headquartered in Monroe.

quote:

Collett E. Woolman, one of the original directors, purchased the company on September 13, 1928, and renamed it Delta Air Service.

Macon = Huff Daland Dusters
Monroe = Delta Air Service

Ugh?

Biedenharn family has sold all their stock in Delta and Coke. I don't know what Delta sold for but the Coke stock (including the Monroe bottling plant) went for $335 million. The Coke was sold in the early 90's and the Delta around 2000

Wow !
quote:

Newspapers raved about the Travel Air’s wood-insulated “soundproof” cabin that made inflight conversation possible—barely—and noted that passengers could roll down the windows for ventilation.

quote:

the Travel Air was powered by a 300-horsepower Wright J6 engine, could cruise at 90 miles per hour and had a maximum range of 500 miles.
