My local CU was bought out by an outfit who has proven over the past few months they don't give a red rat's @ss about customer service. After 20 years with my old CU, the new sheriff's simply don't value my business, and I'm ready to pull up stakes.

Who do you bank with and why? Obviously I put a premium on a small feel (I really prefer CU's for that reason) and an excellent customer service experience. I'm in the Baton Rouge area, but at this point I'm also open to dealing with anyone who can provide a better experience from a customer service standpoint, large or small.

We utilize an app for most of our banking needs-balance transfers, checking account balances, etc-and are just using this for a joint checking and savings, along with a loan here or there based on needs or wants.

So who does the OT bank with?

Inertia

I opened a Guaranty Bank account as a teenager. Hibernia bought them years later and Capital One after that.

Bank of America.

I opened my first account there in high school. Never really have had a need or desire to switch.

Capital One - Been with them since Hibernia. CapOne improved on what Hibernia offered, and they are still improving now that they bought out ING. free personal and business checking, lowest auto loan rates for both of my last vehicles, and branches all over town for convenience.

Capitol One because they were available in Louisiana and I can take pictures of checks while I live out of state.

They are also free.

I am also a Hibernia person converted to Capital One.

Dealing with People's bank on a construction loan and they feel folksy.

If you are looking for a small feel, give them a look see.

Since you liked your CU - I would go with a CU again, the best thing you can do is make sure the CU you go with is a part of the Servicing Centers.

The Servicing Centers allows you to bank throughout the United States at any other Credit Union that is a part of the service, so it's like your bank is throughout the entire United States, but you get the niceties of a "small community" Credit Union on top of it.

Go Here and See which ones are available in your area

I did a search in the Baton Rouge area and there are 48 results.

Telco Federal Credit Union

They are a part of the Servicing Center - and from my experience the Telco brand = top notch service and friendly workers / customers. This might be your best option.

USAA. I picked them because I already had a few loans with them, auto insurance and renters insurance. Also, they are Active Duty and Veteran friendly.
