Press conference with WMATA going on now. Totally unprecedented.

To think that an area like DC's transit system could be such a failure is crazy. I'm very happy I don't ride Metro anymore. I honestly felt like I was taking a risk each time I got on the Green and Red Lines.

It seemed fine when I used it last year. I only used the yellow and blue lines though.

Besides the fact that they've had multiple hazards resulting in people dying, yeah it's fine.

Why don't they do this over the weekend?
I guess it will give all the government workers we are paying for an excuse to not show up for their overpaying, underworking job.

Where do you guys go to watch sports? I started a job out in Rockville in January but live in Arlington. Ride to work with a coworker though, otherwise this would fricking suck

According to the article, the board decided that after yesterday's early morning fire they couldn't take the risk of waiting and having another one, this time with another fatality. IMHO they could have but I'm not the one making the decisions.

Fortunately I walk to work anyway, maybe with nobody at the office I can get caught up.

Best place to watch sports in Arlington is Rhodeside, hands down.

Wut. DC metro is the cleanest looking mass transit in this country. (Not that that is saying much)

In terms of reliability, safety, and infrastructure, it's hard to imagine how any system in the U.S. could be worse than Metro. Using it for a weekend visit in DC isn't enough time to realize how bad it really is.

Corruption runs deep at Metro. Funds that were supposed to go toward improving the system have gone elsewhere, leading to fires breaking out and trains derailing in the tunnels, all within the past year.

The fact that they're shutting down this massive system that countless people rely on to get to work on a Wednesday just goes to show how bad it's gotten.

That's a heck of a statement. There are some grossly bad government run entities out there.

For anyone doubting the incompetence of Metro, just google some of their escalator issues.

Utter incompetence, ignorance and a complete shite culture make WMATA a cesspool. And I say that as a former contractor for them.
