Daily career change mid-career thread: Male Nurse
Posted on 4/19/17 at 9:57 am
Posted on 4/19/17 at 9:57 am
I graduated with a BS in Criminal Justice and a minor in PoliSci. Neither have done anything for me.
I've been a plant baw for the past year, and worked in sales before that. I have a lot of medical experience from my days in the military, and don't want to do the plant baw thing anymore.
I recently decided to go back to school for nursing (Greg Focker) and start clinicals for an RN license this Fall. I get to skip all the prereqs because I already have a BS.
Any male nurses on this board? What can you tell me? Pros/Cons welcome...

School is hard. If you're single, you should have a lot of fun.
Being the minority gender helps when it's time to get a job.
*not an RN, but my dad is.

LPN isn't touching $100k unless they're working 2 full time jobs.

Well, maybe then

Not a nurse myself, but I knew several in my younger days and they were always up for some sexual adventures. Assuming you are of the heterosexual persuasion, that would fall under the "pros" column.

Doctors will hate you. Not only will you get in their way and not listen to them enough, but you won't be an attractive young woman to balance that out

NP, nurse practitioner. You don't have to work crazy hours to get 6 figures going that route.

Isn't an NP a RN with a Masters or some shite? Following Nurse hierarchy is like taking Cal 2 again.

15 years as a rn. Best decision I made. Lots of flexibility within the field once you have that license. Can tailor alot of your work around your lifestyle.
Don't make the mistake of having sex with anyone you work with. That is a professional disaster. Keep it professional, get your pussy elsewhere, and you can enjoy a good stable career.
Also, don't get drawn into the drama that is everywhere. You are there to earn a paycheck, not make friends.
Of course, you have to be the type that enjoys interacting with people. If you aren't then it can get a little rough.
