Let's get it out there cruises are trashy, Walmart of the seas yada yada...

But if you had to go out of either port which is better for cruise choice, ship, clientele etc?

What line are you sailing?

Carnival sails out of both. The Magic, which is out of Galveston, has some newer upgrades than the Dream out of Nola. However, not everyone thinks the upgrades are the best. For me, I would chose based on how far I wanted to drive or if I was flying, the cost to fly into Houston vs. Nola. There are 2 ships for Carnival in each port, the bigger ships do the longer itineraries.

A lot of people like to sail out of New Orleans because they can come in a few days early and have a mini vacation in Nola. I don't think Galveston has quite that kind of appeal but it may to others.

The itineraries are going to be the same out of New Orleans or Galveston. So the only thing that may sway you is the exact dates they sail and when they go where. But no matter what, they all do the same stops eventually.

Doing the more expensive week long intineraries will keep a good portion of the trash out, so plan on that.

Glaveston. You don't want to get shot before your luxurious vacation.

We live just west of lafayette so the drive won't be a huge difference either way. Don't want to fly to any port. We have cruised Carnival but ready to try another line.

depends on which boat is where. what are your boat options? I've been on several carnival boats and can tell you which one I preferred.

I like the parking in New Orleans better (in a garage), versus a .5 mile away in the open lots at Galveston.

We just went couple weeks ago on Royal Caribbean Navigator out of Galveston, week long to Roatan, Belize and Cozumel. Great ship, and we had a good time. No issues in Galveston port at all, very easy.

I'm a NOLA and NCL fanboy. I like the 4 ports that you get from cruising out of New Orleans better than the just 3 from Galveston. The 4th port is Costa Maya (Mahahual) and it has some really laid back beaches as well as great diving.

I've done Royal Caribbean out of Galveston before, but NCL out of New Orleans suits us fine. We sailed the Dawn in January and have already booked the Dawn for Jan/2016 and Jan/2017. My wife and I with our twins (12) are in a oceanview cabin for a 7 day cruise and it costs us about 1800 bucks for the 4 of us. And that includes an open bar for the week. NCL's prices right now are unbeatable.

Depends on the cruise line/ cruise ship. We have cruised out of Galveston once, all of our other cruises were out of Florida. Never cruised out of NOLA because the ships and itineraries never appealed to us; however, we did cruise on the Carnival Dream 2 years ago out of Port Canaveral . It now leaves out of NOLA and is a nice ship. It had just been renovated before we cruised on it.

My coworkers say that it takes longer for New Orleans to get out to sea (than Galveston) and do their safety drills before getting to relax. They also said Galveston has more fog issues and can be delayed.

The muster drill starts around 3-3:30 and only takes a few minutes. After that, the ship is running and everyone can get to relaxing even though it does take a good while to get out to sea. The only thing you can't do is play in the casino so I am not sure what the river is stopping them from doing other than gambling.

I'd pick Galveston. You can kill time on The Strand and be just minutes from the port.

Roatan was really pretty, I'd go back there to a resort. We did snorkeling that day and had a blast. Little French Key is supposed to be a great place as well.

Belize was ok, very very poor. We did cave tubing, which takes an entire day because it is about an hour and half drive in a bus to get there. Was very interesting though.
